MoranivÄpasutta At the Peacocksā Feeding Ground
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati moranivÄpe paribbÄjakÄrÄme. At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, at the monastery of the wanderers in the peacocksā feeding ground.
Tatra kho bhagavÄ bhikkhÅ« Ämantesi: There the Buddha addressed the mendicants,
ābhikkhavoāti. āMendicants!ā
āBhadanteāti te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato paccassosuį¹. āVenerable sir,ā they replied.
BhagavÄ etadavoca: The Buddha said this:
āTÄ«hi, bhikkhave, dhammehi samannÄgato bhikkhu accantaniį¹į¹ho hoti accantayogakkhemÄ« accantabrahmacÄrÄ« accantapariyosÄno seį¹į¹ho devamanussÄnaį¹. āMendicants, a mendicant who has three qualities has reached the ultimate end, the ultimate sanctuary from the yoke, the ultimate spiritual life, the ultimate goal. They are best among gods and humans.

A mendicant with these two qualities has reached the ultimate end, the ultimate sanctuary from the yoke, the ultimate spiritual life, the ultimate goal. They are best among gods and humans.
BrahmunÄ pesÄ, bhikkhave, sanaį¹
kumÄrena gÄthÄ bhÄsitÄ: The divinity Sanaį¹
kumÄra also spoke this verse:
āKhattiyo seį¹į¹ho janetasmiį¹, āThe aristocrat is best among people
ye gottapaį¹isÄrino; who take clan as the standard.
VijjÄcaraį¹asampanno, But one accomplished in knowledge and conduct
so seį¹į¹ho devamÄnuseāti. is first among gods and humans.ā
SÄ kho panesÄ, bhikkhave, sanaį¹
kumÄrena gÄthÄ bhÄsitÄ subhÄsitÄ, no dubbhÄsitÄ; atthasaį¹hitÄ, no anatthasaį¹hitÄ; anumatÄ mayÄ. Now, that verse spoken by the divinity Sanaį¹
kumÄra is well spoken, not poorly spoken. Itās beneficial, not pointless, and I agree with it.
Ahampi, bhikkhave, evaį¹ vadÄmi: I also say:
āKhattiyo seį¹į¹ho janetasmiį¹, āThe aristocrat is best among people
ye gottapaį¹isÄrino; who take clan as the standard.
VijjÄcaraį¹asampanno, But one accomplished in knowledge and conduct
so seį¹į¹ho devamÄnuseāāti. is first among gods and humans.āā
