Kodhasutta Anger
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āEkadhammaį¹, bhikkhave, pajahatha; āMendicants, give up one thing
ahaį¹ vo pÄį¹ibhogo anÄgÄmitÄya. and I guarantee you non-return.
Katamaį¹ ekadhammaį¹? What one thing?
Kodhaį¹, bhikkhave, ekadhammaį¹ pajahatha; Anger is the one thing. Give it up,
ahaį¹ vo pÄį¹ibhogo anÄgÄmitÄyÄāti. and I guarantee you non-return.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āYena kodhena kuddhÄse, āWhen overcome by anger
sattÄ gacchanti duggatiį¹; beings go to a bad place.
Taį¹ kodhaį¹ sammadaƱƱÄya, Having rightly understood that anger,
pajahanti vipassino; the discerning give it up.
PahÄya na punÄyanti, Once theyāve given it up,
imaį¹ lokaį¹ kudÄcananāti. they never return to this world.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
