LobhapariƱƱÄsutta Complete Understanding of Greed
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āLobhaį¹, bhikkhave, anabhijÄnaį¹ aparijÄnaį¹ tattha cittaį¹ avirÄjayaį¹ appajahaį¹ abhabbo dukkhakkhayÄya. āMendicants, without directly knowing and completely understanding greed, without dispassion for it and giving it up, you canāt end suffering.
LobhaƱca kho, bhikkhave, abhijÄnaį¹ parijÄnaį¹ tattha cittaį¹ virÄjayaį¹ pajahaį¹ bhabbo dukkhakkhayÄyÄāti. By directly knowing and completely understanding greed, having dispassion for it and giving it up, you can end suffering.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āYena lobhena luddhÄse, āWhen overcome by greed
sattÄ gacchanti duggatiį¹; beings go to a bad place.
Taį¹ lobhaį¹ sammadaƱƱÄya, Having rightly understood that greed,
pajahanti vipassino; the discerning give it up.
PahÄya na punÄyanti, Once theyāve given it up,
imaį¹ lokaį¹ kudÄcananāti. they never return to this world.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
