Taį¹‡hāsaį¹yojanasutta The Fetter of Craving

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œNāhaį¹, bhikkhave, aƱƱaį¹ ekasaį¹yojanampi samanupassāmi yena saį¹yojanena saį¹yuttā sattā dÄ«gharattaį¹ sandhāvanti saį¹saranti yathayidaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹‡hāsaį¹yojanaį¹. ā€œMendicants, I do not see a single fetter, fettered by which people wander and transmigrate for a long time like the fetter of craving.

Taį¹‡hāsaį¹yojanena hi, bhikkhave, saį¹yuttā sattā dÄ«gharattaį¹ sandhāvanti saį¹sarantÄ«ā€ti. Fettered by craving, people wander and transmigrate for a long time.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œTaį¹‡hādutiyo puriso, ā€œCraving is a personā€™s partner

dÄ«ghamaddhāna saį¹saraį¹; as they transmigrate on this long journey.

ItthabhāvaƱƱathābhāvaį¹, They go from this state to another,

saį¹sāraį¹ nātivattati. but donā€™t escape transmigration.

EtamādÄ«navaį¹ Ʊatvā, Knowing this danger,

Taį¹‡haį¹ dukkhassa sambhavaį¹; that craving is the cause of sufferingā€”

VÄ«tataį¹‡ho anādāno, rid of craving, free of grasping,

Sato bhikkhu paribbajeā€ti. a mendicant would wander mindful.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
