Taį¹hÄsaį¹yojanasutta The Fetter of Craving
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āNÄhaį¹, bhikkhave, aƱƱaį¹ ekasaį¹yojanampi samanupassÄmi yena saį¹yojanena saį¹yuttÄ sattÄ dÄ«gharattaį¹ sandhÄvanti saį¹saranti yathayidaį¹, bhikkhave, taį¹hÄsaį¹yojanaį¹. āMendicants, I do not see a single fetter, fettered by which people wander and transmigrate for a long time like the fetter of craving.
Taį¹hÄsaį¹yojanena hi, bhikkhave, saį¹yuttÄ sattÄ dÄ«gharattaį¹ sandhÄvanti saį¹sarantÄ«āti. Fettered by craving, people wander and transmigrate for a long time.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āTaį¹hÄdutiyo puriso, āCraving is a personās partner
dÄ«ghamaddhÄna saį¹saraį¹; as they transmigrate on this long journey.
ItthabhÄvaƱƱathÄbhÄvaį¹, They go from this state to another,
saį¹sÄraį¹ nÄtivattati. but donāt escape transmigration.
EtamÄdÄ«navaį¹ ƱatvÄ, Knowing this danger,
Taį¹haį¹ dukkhassa sambhavaį¹; that craving is the cause of sufferingā
VÄ«tataį¹ho anÄdÄno, rid of craving, free of grasping,
Sato bhikkhu paribbajeāti. a mendicant would wander mindful.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
