VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œIdhāhaį¹, bhikkhave, ekaccaį¹ puggalaį¹ pasannacittaį¹ evaį¹ cetasā ceto paricca pajānāmi: ā€œMendicants, when Iā€™ve comprehended the mind of a person whose mind is pure, I understand:

ā€˜imamhi cāyaį¹ samaye puggalo kālaį¹ kareyya yathābhataį¹ nikkhitto evaį¹ saggeā€™. ā€˜If this person were to die right now, they would be raised up to heaven.ā€™

Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?

Cittaį¹ hissa, bhikkhave, pasannaį¹. Because their mind is pure.

Cetopasādahetu kho pana, bhikkhave, evamā€™idhekacce sattā kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapajjantÄ«ā€ti. Purity of mind is the reason why some sentient beings, when their body breaks up, after death, are reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œPasannacittaį¹ Ʊatvāna, ā€œKnowing a personā€™s

ekaccaį¹ idha puggalaį¹; pure mind,

EtamatthaƱca byākāsi, the Buddha explained this matter

buddho bhikkhÅ«na santike. in the mendicantsā€™ presence.

Imamhi cāyaį¹ samaye, If that person

kālaį¹ kayirātha puggalo; were to die at this time,

Sugatiį¹ upapajjeyya, theyā€™d be reborn in heaven,

cittaį¹ hissa pasāditaį¹. for their mind is pure.

Yathā haritvā nikkhipeyya, Such a person is raised up as surely

evamevaį¹ tathāvidho; as if theyā€™d been carried and put there.

Cetopasādahetu hi, For purity of mind is the reason

sattā gacchanti suggatinā€ti. sentient beings go to a good place.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.

Paį¹hamaį¹.
