VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āSikkhÄnisaį¹sÄ, bhikkhave, viharatha paƱƱuttarÄ vimuttisÄrÄ satÄdhipateyyÄ. āMendicants, live with training as benefit, with wisdom as overseer, with freedom as core, and with mindfulness as ruler.
SikkhÄnisaį¹sÄnaį¹, bhikkhave, viharataį¹ paƱƱuttarÄnaį¹ vimuttisÄrÄnaį¹ satÄdhipateyyÄnaį¹ dvinnaį¹ phalÄnaį¹ aƱƱataraį¹ phalaį¹ pÄį¹ikaį¹
khaį¹āA mendicant who lives in this way can expect one of two results:
diį¹į¹heva dhamme aƱƱÄ, sati vÄ upÄdisese anÄgÄmitÄāti. enlightenment in this very life, or if thereās something left over, non-return.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āParipuį¹į¹asikkhaį¹ apahÄnadhammaį¹, āThe training fulfilled, not liable to decline,
PaƱƱuttaraį¹ jÄtikhayantadassiį¹; overseen by wisdom, seer of rebirthās end;
Taį¹ ve muniį¹ antimadehadhÄriį¹, that sage bears their final body;
MÄraƱjahaį¹ brÅ«mi jarÄya pÄraguį¹. they have disposed of MÄra, I declare, and gone beyond old age.
TasmÄ sadÄ jhÄnaratÄ samÄhitÄ, Therefore be always enjoying absorption, immersed in samÄdhi,
ÄtÄpino jÄtikhayantadassino; energetic, seers of rebirthās end.
MÄraį¹ sasenaį¹ abhibhuyya bhikkhavo, Having overcome MÄra and his armies, mendicants,
Bhavatha jÄtimaraį¹assa pÄragÄāti. go beyond birth and death.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
