VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, dhÄtuyo. āMendicants, there are these three elements.
KatamÄ tisso? What three?
RÅ«padhÄtu, arÅ«padhÄtu, nirodhadhÄtuāThe elements of form, formlessness, and cessation.
imÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso dhÄtuyoāti. These are the three elements.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āRÅ«padhÄtuį¹ pariƱƱÄya, āComprehending the element of form,
Äruppesu asaį¹į¹hitÄ; not stuck in the formless,
Nirodhe ye vimuccanti, those who are released in cessation,
te janÄ maccuhÄyino. they are conquerors of death.
KÄyena amataį¹ dhÄtuį¹, Having directly experienced the element free of death,
phusayitvÄ nirÅ«padhiį¹; free of attachments;
Upadhippaį¹inissaggaį¹, having realised relinquishment
sacchikatvÄ anÄsavo; of attachments, the undefiled
Deseti sammÄsambuddho, fully awakened Buddha teaches
asokaį¹ virajaį¹ padanāti. the sorrowless, stainless state.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
