Dhātusutta Elements

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTisso imā, bhikkhave, dhātuyo. ā€œMendicants, there are these three elements.

Katamā tisso? What three?

RÅ«padhātu, arÅ«padhātu, nirodhadhātuā€”The elements of form, formlessness, and cessation.

imā kho, bhikkhave, tisso dhātuyoā€ti. These are the three elements.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œRÅ«padhātuį¹ pariƱƱāya, ā€œComprehending the element of form,

āruppesu asaį¹‡į¹­hitā; not stuck in the formless,

Nirodhe ye vimuccanti, those who are released in cessation,

te janā maccuhāyino. they are conquerors of death.

Kāyena amataį¹ dhātuį¹, Having directly experienced the element free of death,

phusayitvā nirÅ«padhiį¹; free of attachments;

Upadhippaį¹­inissaggaį¹, having realised relinquishment

sacchikatvā anāsavo; of attachments, the undefiled

Deseti sammāsambuddho, fully awakened Buddha teaches

asokaį¹ virajaį¹ padanā€ti. the sorrowless, stainless state.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
