Paį¹hamavedanÄsutta Feelings (1st)
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, vedanÄ. āMendicants, there are these three feelings.
KatamÄ tisso? What three?
SukhÄ vedanÄ, dukkhÄ vedanÄ, adukkhamasukhÄ vedanÄāPleasant, painful, and neutral feeling.
imÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso vedanÄāti. These are the three feelings.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āSamÄhito sampajÄno, āStilled, aware,
sato buddhassa sÄvako; a mindful disciple of the Buddha
VedanÄ ca pajÄnÄti, understands feelings,
vedanÄnaƱca sambhavaį¹. the cause of feelings,
Yattha cetÄ nirujjhanti, where they cease,
maggaƱca khayagÄminaį¹; and the path that leads to their ending.
VedanÄnaį¹ khayÄ bhikkhu, With the ending of feelings, a mendicant
nicchÄto parinibbutoāti. is hungerless, quenched.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
