Cakkhusutta The Eye
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āTÄ«į¹imÄni, bhikkhave, cakkhÅ«ni. āMendicants, there are these three eyes.
KatamÄni tÄ«į¹i? What three?
Maį¹sacakkhu, dibbacakkhu, paƱƱÄcakkhuāThe eye of the flesh, the eye of clairvoyance, and the eye of wisdom.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹i cakkhÅ«nÄ«āti. These are the three eyes.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āMaį¹sacakkhu dibbacakkhu, āThe eye of flesh, the clairvoyant eye,
paƱƱÄcakkhu anuttaraį¹; the supreme eye of wisdom:
EtÄni tÄ«į¹i cakkhÅ«ni, these three eyes
akkhÄsi purisuttamo. were taught by the supreme person.
Maį¹sacakkhussa uppÄdo, The arising of the eye of flesh
maggo dibbassa cakkhuno; is the path to the clairvoyant eye.
Yato ƱÄį¹aį¹ udapÄdi, When knowledge arisesā
paƱƱÄcakkhu anuttaraį¹; the supreme eye of wisdomā
Yassa cakkhussa paį¹ilÄbhÄ, one who gains that eye
sabbadukkhÄ pamuccatÄ«āti. is released from all suffering.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
