Cakkhusutta The Eye

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTÄ«į¹‡imāni, bhikkhave, cakkhÅ«ni. ā€œMendicants, there are these three eyes.

Katamāni tÄ«į¹‡i? What three?

Maį¹sacakkhu, dibbacakkhu, paƱƱācakkhuā€”The eye of the flesh, the eye of clairvoyance, and the eye of wisdom.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹‡i cakkhÅ«nÄ«ā€ti. These are the three eyes.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œMaį¹sacakkhu dibbacakkhu, ā€œThe eye of flesh, the clairvoyant eye,

paƱƱācakkhu anuttaraį¹; the supreme eye of wisdom:

Etāni tÄ«į¹‡i cakkhÅ«ni, these three eyes

akkhāsi purisuttamo. were taught by the supreme person.

Maį¹sacakkhussa uppādo, The arising of the eye of flesh

maggo dibbassa cakkhuno; is the path to the clairvoyant eye.

Yato Ʊāį¹‡aį¹ udapādi, When knowledge arisesā€”

paƱƱācakkhu anuttaraį¹; the supreme eye of wisdomā€”

Yassa cakkhussa paį¹­ilābhā, one who gains that eye

sabbadukkhā pamuccatÄ«ā€ti. is released from all suffering.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
