Indriyasutta Faculties

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTÄ«į¹‡imāni, bhikkhave, indriyāni. ā€œMendicants, there are these three faculties.

Katamāni tÄ«į¹‡i? What three?

AnaƱƱātaƱƱassāmÄ«tindriyaį¹, aƱƱindriyaį¹, aƱƱātāvindriyaį¹ā€”The faculty of understanding that oneā€™s enlightenment is imminent. The faculty of enlightenment. The faculty of one who is enlightened.

imāni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹‡i indriyānÄ«ā€ti. These are the three faculties.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œSekhassa sikkhamānassa, ā€œAs a trainee trains,

ujumaggānusārino; following the straight road,

Khayasmiį¹ paį¹­hamaį¹ Ʊāį¹‡aį¹, first they know about ending;

tato aƱƱā anantarā. enlightenment follows in the same lifetime.

Tato aƱƱāvimuttassa, Then the knowledge comes

Ʊāį¹‡aį¹ ve hoti tādino; to such a one, freed through enlightenment,

Akuppā me vimuttīti, with the end of the fetters of continued existence:

bhavasaį¹yojanakkhayā. ā€˜My freedom is unshakable.ā€™

Sa ve indriyasampanno, Accomplished in the faculties,

santo santipade rato; peaceful, in love with the state of peace,

Dhāreti antimaį¹ dehaį¹, they bear their final body,

jetvā māraį¹ savāhininā€ti. having vanquished Māra and his mount.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
