Addhāsutta Periods

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œTayome, bhikkhave, addhā. ā€œMendicants, there are these three periods.

Katame tayo? What three?

AtÄ«to addhā, anāgato addhā, paccuppanno addhāā€”Past, future, and present.

ime kho, bhikkhave, tayo addhāā€ti. These are the three periods.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œAkkheyyasaƱƱino sattā, ā€œSentient beings who perceive the communicable,

akkheyyasmiį¹ patiį¹­į¹­hitā; become established in the communicable.

Akkheyyaį¹ apariƱƱāya, Not understanding the communicable,

yogamāyanti maccuno. they fall under the yoke of Death.

AkkheyyaƱca pariƱƱāya, But having fully understood the communicable,

akkhātāraį¹ na maƱƱati; they donā€™t conceive a communicator,

Phuį¹­į¹­ho vimokkho manasā, as theyā€™ve touched liberation with their mind,

santipadamanuttaraį¹. the supreme state of peace.

Sa ve akkheyyasampanno, Accomplished in the communicable,

santo santipade rato; peaceful, in love with the state of peace;

Saį¹…khāya sevÄ« dhammaį¹­į¹­ho, making use after reflection, firm in principle,

saį¹…khyaį¹ nopeti vedagÅ«ā€ti. a knowledge master cannot be reckoned.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
