Sucaritasutta Good Conduct
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āTÄ«į¹imÄni, bhikkhave, sucaritÄni. āMendicants, there are these kinds of good conduct.
KatamÄni tÄ«į¹i? What three?
KÄyasucaritaį¹, vacÄ«sucaritaį¹, manosucaritaį¹āGood conduct by way of body, speech, and mind.
imÄni kho, bhikkhave, tÄ«į¹i sucaritÄnÄ«āti. These are the three kinds of good conduct.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āKÄyaduccaritaį¹ hitvÄ, āHaving given up bad conduct
vacÄ«duccaritÄni ca; by way of body,
Manoduccaritaį¹ hitvÄ, speech, and mind,
yaƱcaƱƱaį¹ dosasaį¹hitaį¹. and whatever else is corrupt;
AkatvÄkusalaį¹ kammaį¹, not having done bad deeds,
katvÄna kusalaį¹ bahuį¹; and having done many good,
KÄyassa bhedÄ sappaƱƱo, when their body breaks up, that wise person
saggaį¹ so upapajjatÄ«āti. is reborn in heaven.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
