VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āYassa kassaci, bhikkhave, rÄgo appahÄ«no, doso appahÄ«no, moho appahÄ«noāāWhoever has not given up greed, hate, and delusion
ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, ābaddho mÄrassa paį¹imukkassa mÄrapÄso yathÄkÄmakaraį¹Ä«yo pÄpimatoā. is said to be trapped. Theyāre caught in MÄraās snare, and the Wicked One can do with them what he wants.
Yassa kassaci, bhikkhave, rÄgo pahÄ«no, doso pahÄ«no, moho pahÄ«noāWhoever has given up greed, hate, and delusion
ayaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, āabaddho mÄrassa omukkassa mÄrapÄso na yathÄkÄmakaraį¹Ä«yo pÄpimatoāāti. is said to be free. Theyāre released from MÄraās snare, and the Wicked One cannot do with them what he wants.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āYassa rÄgo ca doso ca, āThose in whom greed, hate, and ignorance
avijjÄ ca virÄjitÄ; have faded away,
Taį¹ bhÄvitattaƱƱataraį¹, belong with those who are evolved;
brahmabhÅ«taį¹ tathÄgataį¹; A manifestation of divinity, realized,
Buddhaį¹ verabhayÄtÄ«taį¹, awakened, beyond enmity and fear,
Ähu sabbappahÄyinanāti. theyāve given up everything, they say.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
