Nissaraį¹iyasutta Elements of Escape
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āTisso imÄ, bhikkhave, nissaraį¹iyÄ dhÄtuyo. āMendicants, there are these three elements of escape.
KatamÄ tisso? What three?
KÄmÄnametaį¹ nissaraį¹aį¹ yadidaį¹ nekkhammaį¹, rÅ«pÄnametaį¹ nissaraį¹aį¹ yadidaį¹ Äruppaį¹, yaį¹ kho pana kiƱci bhÅ«taį¹ saį¹
khataį¹ paį¹iccasamuppannaį¹ nirodho tassa nissaraį¹aį¹āRenunciation is the escape from sensual pleasures. Formlessness is the escape from form. Cessation is the escape from whatever is created, conditioned, and dependently originated.
imÄ kho, bhikkhave, tisso nissaraį¹iyÄ dhÄtuyoāti. These are the three elements of escape.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āKÄmanissaraį¹aį¹ ƱatvÄ, āKnowing the escape from sensuality,
rÅ«pÄnaƱca atikkamaį¹; and formās transcendence,
Sabbasaį¹
khÄrasamathaį¹, one always keen touches
phusaį¹ ÄtÄpi sabbadÄ. the stilling of all activities.
Sa ve sammaddaso bhikkhu, That mendicant sees rightly,
yato tattha vimuccati; and when freed in regards to that,
AbhiƱƱÄvosito santo, that peaceful sage, with perfect insight,
sa ve yogÄtigo munÄ«āti. has truly slipped their yoke.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
