DhammÄnudhammapaį¹ipannasutta Practicing In Line With the Teaching
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āDhammÄnudhammapaį¹ipannassa bhikkhuno ayamanudhammo hoti veyyÄkaraį¹ÄyaāāRegarding a mendicant practicing in line with the teaching, it is in line with the teaching to declare that
dhammÄnudhammapaį¹ipannoyanti bhÄsamÄno dhammaƱƱeva bhÄsati no adhammaį¹, vitakkayamÄno vÄ dhammavitakkaƱƱeva vitakketi no adhammavitakkaį¹, tadubhayaį¹ vÄ pana abhinivejjetvÄ upekkhako viharati sato sampajÄnoāti. this is what it means to practice in line with the teaching. When speaking, they speak in line with the teaching, not against it. When thinking, they think in line with the teaching, not against it. And rejecting both, they meditate staying equanimous, mindful and aware.ā
Etamatthaį¹ bhagavÄ avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.
Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:
āDhammÄrÄmo dhammarato, āDelighting in the teaching, enjoying the teaching,
dhammaį¹ anuvicintayaį¹; contemplating the teaching,
Dhammaį¹ anussaraį¹ bhikkhu, a mendicant who recollects the teaching
saddhammÄ na parihÄyati. doesnāt decline in the true teaching.
Caraį¹ vÄ yadi vÄ tiį¹į¹haį¹, Whether walking or standing,
nisinno uda vÄ sayaį¹; sitting or lying down,
Ajjhattaį¹ samayaį¹ cittaį¹, with mind collected inside,
santimevÄdhigacchatÄ«āti. they attain only peace.ā
Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatÄ, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
