Dhammānudhammapaį¹ipannasutta Practicing In Line With the Teaching

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œDhammānudhammapaį¹ipannassa bhikkhuno ayamanudhammo hoti veyyākaraį¹‡Äyaā€”ā€œRegarding a mendicant practicing in line with the teaching, it is in line with the teaching to declare that

dhammānudhammapaį¹ipannoyanti bhāsamāno dhammaƱƱeva bhāsati no adhammaį¹, vitakkayamāno vā dhammavitakkaƱƱeva vitakketi no adhammavitakkaį¹, tadubhayaį¹ vā pana abhinivejjetvā upekkhako viharati sato sampajānoā€ti. this is what it means to practice in line with the teaching. When speaking, they speak in line with the teaching, not against it. When thinking, they think in line with the teaching, not against it. And rejecting both, they meditate staying equanimous, mindful and aware.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œDhammārāmo dhammarato, ā€œDelighting in the teaching, enjoying the teaching,

dhammaį¹ anuvicintayaį¹; contemplating the teaching,

Dhammaį¹ anussaraį¹ bhikkhu, a mendicant who recollects the teaching

saddhammā na parihāyati. doesnā€™t decline in the true teaching.

Caraį¹ vā yadi vā tiį¹į¹haį¹, Whether walking or standing,

nisinno uda vā sayaį¹; sitting or lying down,

Ajjhattaį¹ samayaį¹ cittaį¹, with mind collected inside,

santimevādhigacchatÄ«ā€ti. they attain only peace.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.

Sattamaį¹.
