Sulabhasutta Easy to Find

VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatā vuttamarahatāti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.

ā€œCattārimāni, bhikkhave, appāni ceva sulabhāni ca, tāni ca anavajjāni. ā€œMendicants, these four trifles are easy to find and are blameless.

Katamāni cattāri? What four?

Paį¹sukÅ«laį¹, bhikkhave, cÄ«varānaį¹ appaƱca sulabhaƱca, taƱca anavajjaį¹. Rag-robes ā€¦

Piį¹‡įøiyālopo, bhikkhave, bhojanānaį¹ appaƱca sulabhaƱca, taƱca anavajjaį¹. A lump of almsfood ā€¦

RukkhamÅ«laį¹, bhikkhave, senāsanānaį¹ appaƱca sulabhaƱca, taƱca anavajjaį¹. Lodgings at the root of a tree ā€¦

PÅ«timuttaį¹, bhikkhave, bhesajjānaį¹ appaƱca sulabhaƱca taƱca anavajjaį¹. Rancid urine as medicine ā€¦

Imāni kho, bhikkhave, cattāri appāni ceva sulabhāni ca, tāni ca anavajjāni. These four trifles are easy to find and are blameless.

Yato kho, bhikkhave, bhikkhu appena ca tuį¹­į¹­ho hoti sulabhena ca anavajjena ca, idamassāhaį¹ aƱƱataraį¹ sāmaƱƱaį¹…ganti vadāmÄ«ā€ti. When a mendicant is content with trifles that are easy to find, they have one of the factors of the ascetic life, I say.ā€

Etamatthaį¹ bhagavā avoca. The Buddha spoke this matter.

Tatthetaį¹ iti vuccati: On this it is said:

ā€œAnavajjena tuį¹­į¹­hassa, ā€œWhen one is content with whatā€™s blameless,

appena sulabhena ca; trifling, and easy to find,

Na senāsanamārabbha, they donā€™t get distressed

cÄ«varaį¹ pānabhojanaį¹; about lodgings, robes,

Vighāto hoti cittassa, food, and drink,

disā nappaį¹­ihaƱƱati. and theyā€™re not obstructed anywhere.

Ye cassa dhammā akkhātā, These qualities are said to be

sāmaƱƱassānulomikā; integral to the ascetic life.

Adhiggahitā tuį¹­į¹­hassa, Theyā€™re mastered by a mendicant,

appamattassa bhikkhunoā€ti. content and diligent.ā€

Ayampi attho vutto bhagavatā, iti me sutanti. This too is a matter that was spoken by the Blessed One: that is what I heard.
