SÄ«lasampannasutta Accomplished in Ethics
VuttaƱhetaį¹ bhagavatÄ vuttamarahatÄti me sutaį¹: This was said by the Buddha, the Perfected One: that is what I heard.
āYe te, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« sÄ«lasampannÄ samÄdhisampannÄ paƱƱÄsampannÄ vimuttisampannÄ vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanasampannÄ ovÄdakÄ viƱƱÄpakÄ sandassakÄ samÄdapakÄ samuttejakÄ sampahaį¹sakÄ alaį¹samakkhÄtÄro saddhammassa dassanampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi; āMendicants, take a mendicant who is accomplished in ethics, immersion, wisdom, freedom, and the knowledge and vision of freedom. They advise and instruct. They educate, encourage, fire up, and inspire, and can rightly explain the true teaching. Even the sight of those mendicants is very helpful, I say.
savanampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi; Even to hear them,
upasaį¹
kamanampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi; approach them,
payirupÄsanampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi; pay homage to them,
anussaraį¹ampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi; recollect them,
anupabbajjampahaį¹, bhikkhave, tesaį¹ bhikkhÅ«naį¹ bahÅ«pakÄraį¹ vadÄmi. or go forth after them is very helpful, I say.
Taį¹ kissa hetu? Why is that?
TathÄrÅ«pe, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« sevato bhajato payirupÄsato aparipÅ«ropi sÄ«lakkhandho bhÄvanÄpÄripÅ«riį¹ gacchati, aparipÅ«ropi samÄdhikkhandho bhÄvanÄpÄripÅ«riį¹ gacchati, aparipÅ«ropi paƱƱÄkkhandho bhÄvanÄpÄripÅ«riį¹ gacchati, aparipÅ«ropi vimuttikkhandho bhÄvanÄpÄripÅ«riį¹ gacchati, aparipÅ«ropi vimuttiƱÄį¹adassanakkhandho bhÄvanÄpÄripÅ«riį¹ gacchati. For one who frequents and associates with such mendicants, their incomplete spectrum of ethics is completed. Their incomplete spectrum of immersion ā¦ wisdom ā¦ freedom ā¦ knowledge and vision of freedom is completed.
EvarÅ«pÄ ca te, bhikkhave, bhikkhÅ« satthÄrotipi vuccanti, satthavÄhÄtipi vuccanti, raį¹aƱjahÄtipi vuccanti, tamonudÄtipi vuccanti, ÄlokakarÄtipi vuccanti, obhÄsakarÄtipi vuccanti, pajjotakarÄtipi vuccanti, ukkÄdhÄrÄtipi vuccanti, pabhaį¹
