9. Morajātaka The Peacock: a past life story

ā€œUdetayaƱ cakkhumā ekarājā, This Clear-eyed One arises, the One King,

Harissavaį¹‡į¹‡o pathavippabhāso; palomino-colored, shining over the earth.

Taį¹ taį¹ namassāmi harissavaį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ pathavippabhāsaį¹, I bow especially to you, palomino-colored, shining over the earth:

Tayājja guttā viharemu divasaį¹. guarded by you let us live out this day.

Ye brāhmaį¹‡Ä vedagÅ« sabbadhamme, Those brahmins who are knowledge-masters with respect to all things,

Te me namo te ca maį¹ pālayantu; I worship them, may they keep me safe.

Namatthu buddhānaį¹ namatthu bodhiyā, Hail the Awakened Ones, hail Awakening!

Namo vimuttānaį¹ namo vimuttiyā; Homage to the freed ones, homage to freedom!

Imaį¹ so parittaį¹ katvā, Having made this protection,

Moro carati esanā. the peacock wanders seeking.

Apetayaį¹ cakkhumā ekarājā, This Clear-eyed One sets, the One King,
