BhadrÄvudhamÄį¹avapucchÄ The Questions of BhadrÄvudha
āOkaƱjahaį¹ taį¹hacchidaį¹ anejaį¹, āI beseech you, the shelter-leaver, the craving-cutter, the imperturbable,ā
(iccÄyasmÄ bhadrÄvudho) said Venerable BhadrÄvudha,
NandiƱjahaį¹ oghatiį¹į¹aį¹ vimuttaį¹; āthe delight-leaver, the flood-crosser, the freed,
KappaƱjahaį¹ abhiyÄce sumedhaį¹, the formulation-leaver, the intelligent.
SutvÄna nÄgassa apanamissanti ito. Different people have gathered from across the nations
NÄnÄjanÄ janapadehi saį¹
gatÄ, wishing to hear your word, O hero.
Tava vÄ«ra vÄkyaį¹ abhikaį¹
khamÄnÄ; After hearing the spiritual giant they will depart from here.
Tesaį¹ tuvaį¹ sÄdhu viyÄkarohi, Please, sage, answer them clearly,
TathÄ hi te vidito esa dhammoā. for truly you understand this matter.ā
āÄdÄnataį¹haį¹ vinayetha sabbaį¹, āDispel all craving for attachments,ā
(bhadrÄvudhÄti bhagavÄ replied the Buddha,
Uddhaį¹ adho tiriyaƱcÄpi majjhe; āabove, below, all round, between.
Yaį¹ yaƱhi lokasmimupÄdiyanti, For whatever a person grasps in the world,
Teneva mÄro anveti jantuį¹. MÄra pursues them right there.
TasmÄ pajÄnaį¹ na upÄdiyetha, So let a mindful mendicant who understands
Bhikkhu sato kiƱcanaį¹ sabbaloke; not grasp anything in all the world,
ÄdÄnasatte iti pekkhamÄno, observing that, in clinging to attachments,
Pajaį¹ imaį¹ maccudheyye visattanāti. these people cling to the domain of death.ā
