Bhadrāvudhamāį¹‡avapucchā The Questions of Bhadrāvudha

ā€œOkaƱjahaį¹ taį¹‡hacchidaį¹ anejaį¹, ā€œI beseech you, the shelter-leaver, the craving-cutter, the imperturbable,ā€

(iccāyasmā bhadrāvudho) said Venerable Bhadrāvudha,

NandiƱjahaį¹ oghatiį¹‡į¹‡aį¹ vimuttaį¹; ā€œthe delight-leaver, the flood-crosser, the freed,

KappaƱjahaį¹ abhiyāce sumedhaį¹, the formulation-leaver, the intelligent.

Sutvāna nāgassa apanamissanti ito. Different people have gathered from across the nations

Nānājanā janapadehi saį¹…gatā, wishing to hear your word, O hero.

Tava vÄ«ra vākyaį¹ abhikaį¹…khamānā; After hearing the spiritual giant they will depart from here.

Tesaį¹ tuvaį¹ sādhu viyākarohi, Please, sage, answer them clearly,

Tathā hi te vidito esa dhammoā€. for truly you understand this matter.ā€

ā€œÄ€dānataį¹‡haį¹ vinayetha sabbaį¹, ā€œDispel all craving for attachments,ā€

(bhadrāvudhāti bhagavā replied the Buddha,

Uddhaį¹ adho tiriyaƱcāpi majjhe; ā€œabove, below, all round, between.

Yaį¹ yaƱhi lokasmimupādiyanti, For whatever a person grasps in the world,

Teneva māro anveti jantuį¹. Māra pursues them right there.

Tasmā pajānaį¹ na upādiyetha, So let a mindful mendicant who understands

Bhikkhu sato kiƱcanaį¹ sabbaloke; not grasp anything in all the world,

Ādānasatte iti pekkhamāno, observing that, in clinging to attachments,

Pajaį¹ imaį¹ maccudheyye visattanā€ti. these people cling to the domain of death.ā€

Bhadrāvudhamāį¹‡avapucchā dvādasamā.
