Paccayattheragāthā Paccaya
“Pañcāhāhaṁ pabbajito, I went forth five days ago,
sekho appattamānaso; a trainee, my heart’s desire unfulfilled.
Vihāraṁ me paviṭṭhassa, I entered my dwelling
cetaso paṇidhī ahu. and resolved in my heart:
Nāsissaṁ na pivissāmi, I won’t eat; I won’t drink;
vihārato na nikkhame; I won’t leave my dwelling;
Napi passaṁ nipātessaṁ, nor will I lie down on my side—
taṇhāsalle anūhate. not until the dart of craving is plucked.
Tassa mevaṁ viharato, See my energy and vigor
passa vīriyaparakkamaṁ; as I meditate like this!
Tisso vijjā anuppattā, I’ve attained the three knowledges
kataṁ buddhassa sāsanan”ti. and fulfilled the Buddha’s instructions.
