āPaƱcapaƱƱÄsavassÄni, For fifty-five years
rajojallamadhÄrayiį¹; I wore dust and dirt.
BhuƱjanto mÄsikaį¹ bhattaį¹, Eating one meal a month,
kesamassuį¹ alocayiį¹. I tore out my hair and beard.
EkapÄdena aį¹į¹hÄsiį¹, I stood on one foot;
Äsanaį¹ parivajjayiį¹; I rejected seats;
SukkhagÅ«thÄni ca khÄdiį¹, I ate dried-out dung;
uddesaƱca na sÄdiyiį¹. I didnāt accept food set aside for me.
EtÄdisaį¹ karitvÄna, I did many deeds of this kind,
bahuį¹ duggatigÄminaį¹; which lead to a bad destination.
VuyhamÄno mahoghena, Swept away by a great flood,
buddhaį¹ saraį¹amÄgamaį¹. I went to the Buddha for refuge.
Saraį¹agamanaį¹ passa, See the going for refuge!
passa dhammasudhammataį¹; See the excellence of the teaching!
Tisso vijjÄ anuppattÄ, Iāve attained the three knowledges
kataį¹ buddhassa sÄsananāti. and fulfilled the Buddhaās instructions.
