Jambukattheragāthā Jambuka

ā€œPaƱcapaƱƱāsavassāni, For fifty-five years

rajojallamadhārayiį¹; I wore dust and dirt.

BhuƱjanto māsikaį¹ bhattaį¹, Eating one meal a month,

kesamassuį¹ alocayiį¹. I tore out my hair and beard.

Ekapādena aį¹­į¹­hāsiį¹, I stood on one foot;

āsanaį¹ parivajjayiį¹; I rejected seats;

SukkhagÅ«thāni ca khādiį¹, I ate dried-out dung;

uddesaƱca na sādiyiį¹. I didnā€™t accept food set aside for me.

Etādisaį¹ karitvāna, I did many deeds of this kind,

bahuį¹ duggatigāminaį¹; which lead to a bad destination.

Vuyhamāno mahoghena, Swept away by a great flood,

buddhaį¹ saraį¹‡amāgamaį¹. I went to the Buddha for refuge.

Saraį¹‡agamanaį¹ passa, See the going for refuge!

passa dhammasudhammataį¹; See the excellence of the teaching!

Tisso vijjā anuppattā, Iā€™ve attained the three knowledges

kataį¹ buddhassa sāsananā€ti. and fulfilled the Buddhaā€™s instructions.
