Paį¹­hamavagga Chapter One

Soį¹‡akuį¹­ikaį¹‡į¹‡attheragāthā Soį¹‡a of the Sharp Ears

ā€œUpasampadā ca me laddhā, Iā€™ve received ordination;

vimutto camhi anāsavo; I am liberated, without defilements;

So ca me bhagavā diį¹­į¹­ho, Iā€™ve seen the Blessed One myself,

vihāre ca sahāvasiį¹. and even stayed together with him.

Bahudeva rattiį¹ bhagavā, The Blessed One, the teacher,

abbhokāsetināmayi; spent much of the night in the open;

Vihārakusalo satthā, then he, who is so skilled in meditation,

vihāraį¹ pāvisÄ« tadā. entered his dwelling.

Santharitvāna saį¹…ghāį¹­iį¹, Spreading his outer robe,

seyyaį¹ kappesi gotamo; Gotama made his bed,

SÄ«ho selaguhāyaį¹va, like a lion in a rocky cave,

pahīnabhayabheravo. with fear and dread given up.

Tato kalyāį¹‡avākkaraį¹‡o, Then, with lovely enunciation,

sammāsambuddhasāvako; Soį¹‡a, a disciple of the Buddha,

Soį¹‡o abhāsi saddhammaį¹, recited the true teaching

buddhaseį¹­į¹­hassa sammukhā. before the best of Buddhas.

PaƱcakkhandhe pariƱƱāya, When he has completely understood the five aggregates,

Bhāvayitvāna aƱjasaį¹; developed the direct route,

Pappuyya paramaį¹ santiį¹, and arrived at ultimate peace,

Parinibbissatyanāsavoā€ti. undefiled, heā€™ll be fully quenched.
