Sopākattheragāthā Sopāka (2nd)

ā€œDisvā pāsādachāyāyaį¹, I saw the supreme person

caį¹…kamantaį¹ naruttamaį¹; walking mindfully in the shade of the terrace,

Tattha naį¹ upasaį¹…kamma, so I approached,

vandissaį¹ purisuttamaį¹. and bowed to the supreme among men.

Ekaį¹saį¹ cÄ«varaį¹ katvā, Arranging my robe over one shoulder

saį¹haritvāna pāį¹‡ayo; and clasping my hands together,

Anucaį¹…kamissaį¹ virajaį¹, I walked alongside that stainless one,

sabbasattānamuttamaį¹. supreme among all beings.

Tato paƱhe apucchi maį¹, The wise one, expert in questions,

paƱhānaį¹ kovido vidÅ«; questioned me.

Acchambhī ca abhīto ca, Brave and fearless,

byākāsiį¹ satthuno ahaį¹. I answered the teacher.

Vissajjitesu paƱhesu, When all his questions were answered,

anumodi tathāgato; the Realized One congratulated me.

Bhikkhusaį¹…ghaį¹ viloketvā, Looking around the mendicant Saį¹…gha,

imamatthaį¹ abhāsatha. he said the following:

ā€˜Lābhā aį¹…gānaį¹ magadhānaį¹, ā€œIt is a blessing for the people of Aį¹…ga and Magadha

Yesāyaį¹ paribhuƱjati; that this person enjoys their

CÄ«varaį¹ piį¹‡įøapātaƱca, robe and almsfood,

Paccayaį¹ sayanāsanaį¹; requisites and lodgings,

Paccuį¹­į¹­hānaƱca sāmÄ«ciį¹, their respect and serviceā€”

Tesaį¹ lābhāti cābravi. itā€™s a blessing for them,ā€ he declared.

Ajjatagge maį¹ sopāka, ā€œSopāka, from this day on

dassanāyopasaį¹…kama; you are invited to come and see me.

Esā ceva te sopāka, And Sopāka, let this

bhavatu upasampadāā€™. be your ordination.ā€

Jātiyā sattavassohaį¹, At seven years old

laddhāna upasampadaį¹; I received ordination.

Dhāremi antimaį¹ dehaį¹, I bear my final bodyā€”

aho dhammasudhammatāā€ti. oh, the excellence of the teaching!
