AbhayātherÄ«gāthā Verses of the Elder Abhayaā€™s Mother Abhayā

ā€œAbhaye bhiduro kāyo, ā€œAbhayā, this body is transient: Abhayā, the body is fragile,

yattha satā puthujjanā; this is what worldly beings should attend to. yet ordinary people are attached to it.

Nikkhipissāmimaį¹ dehaį¹, I will cast aside this body Iā€™ll lay down the body,

sampajānā satīmatī. with mindfulness and clear comprehension. aware and mindful.

Bahūhi dukkhadhammehi, Amidst so much suffering, Though subject to so many painful things,

appamādaratāya me; I devoted myself to heedfulness. I have, through my love of diligence,

Taį¹‡hakkhayo anuppatto, I have obtained the destruction of craving, reached the ending of craving,

kataį¹ buddhassa sāsananā€ti. and completed the teaching of the Buddha.ā€ and fulfilled the Buddhaā€™s instructions.
