āGutte yadatthaį¹ pabbajjÄ, āGuttÄ, why did you go forth? GuttÄ, you have given up your child,
hitvÄ puttaį¹ vasuį¹ piyaį¹; You have left behind child, wealth, and all that is dear. your wealth, and all that you love.
Tameva anubrūhehi, Practice in this way, Foster the goal for which you went forth;
mÄ cittassa vasaį¹ gami. do not be controlled by the mind. do not fall under the mindās control.
Cittena vaƱcitÄ sattÄ, Sentient beings are misguided by the mind, Beings deceived by the mind,
mÄrassa visaye ratÄ; enjoying the realm of MÄra. playing in MÄraās domain,
AnekajÄtisaį¹sÄraį¹, Fools wander along in saį¹sÄra, ignorant, they journey on,
sandhÄvanti aviddasÅ«. running through countless births. transmigrating through countless rebirths.
KÄmacchandaƱca byÄpÄdaį¹, Interest in sensual pleasures, ill will, Sensual desire and ill will,
sakkÄyadiį¹į¹himeva ca; attachment to self-identity, and substantialist view;
SÄ«labbataparÄmÄsaį¹, clinging to rites and rituals, misapprehension of precepts and observances,
vicikicchaƱca paƱcamaį¹. and the fifth is doubt. and doubt as the fifth.
Saį¹yojanÄni etÄni, Once you abandon these fetters, O nun, when you have given up
pajahitvÄna bhikkhunÄ«; BhikkhunÄ«, these lower fetters,
OrambhÄgamanÄ«yÄni, you will not return you wonāt come back
nayidaį¹ punarehisi. to the near shore again. to this world again.
RÄgaį¹ mÄnaį¹ avijjaƱca, Once you forsake passion, conceit, ignorance, And when youāre rid of desire,
uddhaccaƱca vivajjiya; and restlessness, conceit, ignorance, and restlessness,
Saį¹yojanÄni chetvÄna, having cut off the fetters, having cut the fetters,
dukkhassantaį¹ karissasi. you will bring suffering to an end. youāll make an end to suffering.
KhepetvÄ jÄtisaį¹sÄraį¹, Once you have discarded birth in saį¹sÄra, Having wiped out transmigration,
pariƱƱÄya punabbhavaį¹; having fully understood how existence is renewed, and fully understood rebirth,
Diį¹į¹heva dhamme nicchÄtÄ, seeing the Dhamma, without cravings, hungerless in this very life,
upasantÄ carissatÄ«āti. you will walk in peace.ā you will live at peace.
