Sattisutta A Sword A Sword The Sword

Sāvatthinidānaṁ. At Sāvatthī. At Savatthi.

Ekamantaṁ ṭhitā kho sā devatā bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi: As she was standing there, the devatā recited this verse in the Blessed One’s presence: Standing to one side, that deity spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Standing to one side, that devatā recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:

“Sattiyā viya omaṭṭho, “As if struck by a sword, “Like they’re struck by a sword, “As if smitten by a sword,

ḍayhamānova matthake; as if his head were on fire, like their head was on fire, As if his head were on fire,

Kāmarāgappahānāya, a monk should live the wandering life —mindful— a mendicant, mindful, should go forth, To abandon sensual lust.

sato bhikkhu paribbaje”ti. for the abandoning of sensual passion.” to give up sensual desire.” A bhikkhu should wander mindfully ”
