Manonivāraį¹‡asutta Shielding the Mind Reining in the Mind

ā€œYato yato mano nivāraye, ā€œWhatever youā€™ve shielded the mind from ā€œFrom whatever one reins in the mind,

Na dukkhameti naį¹ tato tato; canā€™t cause you suffering. From that no suffering comes to one.

Sa sabbato mano nivāraye, So you should shield the mind from everything, Should one rein in the mind from everything,

Sa sabbato dukkhā pamuccatÄ«ā€ti. then youā€™re freed from all suffering.ā€ One is freed from all suffering. ā€

ā€œNa sabbato mano nivāraye, ā€œThe mind need not be shielded from everything, ā€œOne need not rein in the mind from everything

Na mano saį¹yatattamāgataį¹; nor has the mind gained full self-control. When the mind has come under control.

Yato yato ca pāpakaį¹, The mind need only be shielded From whatever it is that evil comes,

Tato tato mano nivārayeā€ti. from where the bad things come.ā€ From this one should rein in the mind. ā€
