Sarasutta Streams Streams
“Kuto sarā nivattanti, “From where do streams recoil? “From where do the streams turn back?
kattha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati; Where does the cycle spin no more? Where does the round no longer revolve?
Kattha nāmañca rūpañca, Where does name and form Where does name-and-form cease,
asesaṁ uparujjhatī”ti. cease with nothing left over?” Stop without remainder?”
“Yattha āpo ca pathavī, “Where water and earth, “Where water, earth,
tejo vāyo na gādhati; fire and air do not remain— fire, and air, Do not gain a footing:
Ato sarā nivattanti, from here the streams recoil; It is from here that the streams turn back,
ettha vaṭṭaṁ na vattati; in reference to this the cycle spins no more; Here that the round no longer revolves;
Ettha nāmañca rūpañca, in reference to this name and form Here name-and-form ceases,
asesaṁ uparujjhatī”ti. ceases with nothing left over.” Stops without remainder.
