Icchāsutta Desire Desire Desire

“Kenassu bajjhatī loko, “With what is the world tied down? “What is it that binds the world? “By what is the world bound?

kissa vinayāya muccati; With the subduing of what is it freed? By removing what is it freed? By the removal of what is it freed?

Kissassu vippahānena, With the abandoning of what With the giving up of what What is it that one must forsake

sabbaṁ chindati bandhanan”ti. are all bonds cut through?” are all bonds severed?” To cut off all bondage?”

“Icchāya bajjhatī loko, “With desire the world is tied down. “Desire is what binds the world. “By desire is the world bound;

icchāvinayāya muccati; With the subduing of desire it’s freed. By the removing of desire it’s freed. By the removal of desire it is freed.

Icchāya vippahānena, With the abandoning of desire With the giving up of desire, Desire is what one must forsake
