Dutiyakassapasutta Kassapa the Deva’s Son With Kassapa (2nd) Kassapa (Second)

Sāvatthinidānaṁ. Near Sāvatthī, in the monastery… At Sāvatthī. At Sāvatthī.

Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho kassapo devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi: Standing to one side, Kassapa the deva’s son recited this verse in the Blessed One’s presence: Standing to one side, the godling Kassapa spoke this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Standing to one side, the young deva Kassapa recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:

“Bhikkhu siyā jhāyī vimuttacitto, “A monk should have jhāna, be released in mind, “If a mendicant is a meditator, freed in mind, “A bhikkhu should be a meditator,

Ākaṅkhe ce hadayassānupattiṁ; if he wants the heart’s attainment: and if they desire the heart’s fulfillment— One who is liberated in mind, If he desires the heart’s attainment,

Lokassa ñatvā udayabbayañca, knowing the arising & passing away of the world, having known the arising and passing of the world, Having known the world’s rise and fall,

Sucetaso anissito tadānisaṁso”ti. good in his awareness, independent, aimed at that reward.”good-hearted, independent, that is their reward.” Let him be lofty in mind and unattached, bent on that as his advantage.”
