Candimasasutta With Candimasa Candimasa

Sāvatthinidānaṁ. At Sāvatthī. At Sāvatthī.

Atha kho candimaso devaputto abhikkantāya rattiyā abhikkantavaṇṇo kevalakappaṁ jetavanaṁ obhāsetvā yena bhagavā tenupasaṅkami; upasaṅkamitvā bhagavantaṁ abhivādetvā ekamantaṁ aṭṭhāsi. Then, late at night, the glorious god Candimasa, lighting up the entire Jeta’s Grove, went up to the Buddha, bowed, stood to one side, Then, when the night had advanced, the young deva Candimasa, of stunning beauty, illuminating the entire Jeta’s Grove, approached the Blessed One.

Ekamantaṁ ṭhito kho candimaso devaputto bhagavato santike imaṁ gāthaṁ abhāsi: and recited this verse in the Buddha’s presence: Having approached, he paid homage to the Blessed One, stood to one side, and recited this verse in the presence of the Blessed One:

“Te hi sotthiṁ gamissanti, “Like deer in a mosquito-free marsh, “They will surely reach to safety

kacchevāmakase magā; they will reach a safe place Like deer in a mosquito-free marsh,

Jhānāni upasampajja, having entered the absorptions, Who, having attained the jhānas,

ekodi nipakā satā”ti. unified, alert, and mindful.” Are unified, discreet, mindful.”

“Te hi pāraṁ gamissanti, “Like fish when the net is cut, [The Blessed One: ] “They will surely reach the far shore

chetvā jālaṁva ambujo; they will reach the far shore Like a fish when the net is cut,

Jhānāni upasampajja, having entered the absorptions, Who, having attained the jhānas,

appamattā raṇañjahā”ti. diligent, with vices discarded.” Are diligent, with flaws discarded. ”
