Anuruddhasutta With Anuruddha Anuruddhasutta
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ ÄyasmÄ anuruddho kosalesu viharati aƱƱatarasmiį¹ vanasaį¹įøe. At one time Venerable Anuruddha was staying in the land of the Kosalans in a certain forest grove. On one occasion the Venerable Anuruddha was dwelling among the Kosalans in a certain woodland thicket.
Atha kho aƱƱatarÄ tÄvatiį¹sakÄyikÄ devatÄ jÄlinÄ« nÄma Äyasmato anuruddhassa purÄį¹adutiyikÄ yenÄyasmÄ anuruddho tenupasaį¹

kamitvÄ Äyasmantaį¹ anuruddhaį¹ gÄthÄya ajjhabhÄsi: Then a certain deity of the company of the thirty-three named Penelope had been Anuruddhaās partner in a former life. TÄvatiį¹sesu devesu, among the gods of the thirty-three, Among the TÄvatiį¹sa devas
sabbakÄmasamiddhisu; whose every desire is granted! For whom all desires are fulfilled.
Purakkhato parivuto, At the fore of a retinue You will shine forth highly honoured,
devakaƱƱÄhi sobhasÄ«āti. of divine maidens, youāll shine!ā Surrounded by celestial maidens.ā
āDuggatÄ devakaƱƱÄyo, āDivine maidens are in a sorry state, āMiserable are celestial maidens,
sakkÄyasmiį¹ patiį¹į¹hitÄ; stuck in substantial reality. Established in identity;
Te cÄpi duggatÄ sattÄ, And those beings too are in a sorry state, And miserable too are those beings,
devakaƱƱÄhi patthitÄāti. who are attached to divine maidens.ā Attached to celestial maidens.ā
āNa te sukhaį¹ pajÄnanti, āThey donāt know pleasure āThey do not know bliss
ye na passanti nandanaį¹; who donāt see the Garden of Delight! Who have not seen Nandana,
ÄvÄsaį¹ naradevÄnaį¹, Itās the abode of lordly gods, The abode of the glorious male devas
tidasÄnaį¹ yasassinanāti. the glorious host of Thirty!ā Belonging to the host of Thirty.ā
āNa tvaį¹ bÄle vijÄnÄsi, āFool, donāt you understand āDonāt you know, you fool,
yathÄ arahataį¹ vaco; the saying of the perfected ones: That maxim of the arahants?
AniccÄ sabbasaį¹
khÄrÄ, all conditions are impermanent, Impermanent are all formations;
uppÄdavayadhammino; their nature is to rise and fall; Their nature is to arise and vanish.
UppajjitvÄ nirujjhanti, having arisen, they cease; Having arisen, they cease:
tesaį¹ vÅ«pasamo sukho. their stilling is such bliss. Their appeasement is blissful.
Natthi dÄni punÄvÄso, O Penelope, weaver of the webāāNow I will never again dwell
devakÄyasmi jÄlini; there are no more abodes for me in the host of gods. Among the deva host, JÄlinÄ«!
VikkhÄ«į¹o jÄtisaį¹sÄro, Transmigration through births is finished, The wandering on in birth is ended:
natthi dÄni punabbhavoāti. now thereāll be no more future lives.ā Now there is no more renewed existence.ā
