SakkanÄmasutta With a Spirit Named Sakka Yakkha SakkanÄmaka
Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati gijjhakÅ«į¹e pabbate. At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, on the Vultureās Peak Mountain. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at RÄjagaha on Mount Vulture Peak.
Atha kho sakkanÄmako yakkho yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹
kami; upasaį¹
kamitvÄ bhagavantaį¹ gÄthÄya ajjhabhÄsi: Then a spirit named Sakka went up to the Buddha, and addressed him in verse: Then the yakkha SakkanÄmaka approached the Blessed One and addressed him in verse:
āSabbaganthappahÄ«nassa, āYouāve given up all ties, āHaving abandoned all the knots
vippamuttassa te sato; and are fully freed. As one fully released,
Samaį¹assa na taį¹ sÄdhu, Itās not a good idea for you, ascetic, It isnāt good for you, an ascetic,
yadaƱƱamanusÄsasÄ«āti. to be instructing others.ā To be instructing others.ā
āYena kenaci vaį¹į¹ena, āNo matter what the apparent reason āIf, O Sakka, for some reason
saį¹vÄso sakka jÄyati; why people are together, Sakka, Intimacy with anyone should arise,

manasÄ anukampituį¹. to not think of the other with sympathy. With compassion towards such a person.
ManasÄ ce pasannena, If you instruct others āBut if with a mind clear and pure
yadaƱƱamanusÄsati; with a mind clear and confident, He gives instructions to others,
Na tena hoti saį¹yutto, your compassion and empathy He does not become fettered
yÄnukampÄ anuddayÄāti. donāt create attachments.ā By his compassion and sympathy.ā
