Paį¹­hamasukkāsutta With the Nun Sukkā (1st) With the Nun Sukkā (1st)

Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivāpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrelsā€™ feeding ground. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rajagaha in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrel Sanctuary.

Tena kho pana samayena sukkā bhikkhunÄ« mahatiyā parisāya parivutā dhammaį¹ deseti. Now, at that time the nun Sukkā was teaching Dhamma, surrounded by a large assembly. Now on that occasion the bhikkhuni Sukka, surrounded by a large assembly, was teaching the Dhamma.

Atha kho sukkāya bhikkhuniyā abhippasanno yakkho rājagahe rathikāya rathikaį¹ siį¹…ghāį¹­akena siį¹…ghāį¹­akaį¹ upasaį¹…kamitvā tāyaį¹ velāyaį¹ imā gāthāyo abhāsi: Then a native spirit was so devoted to Sukkā that he went from street to street and from square to square, and on that occasion recited these verses: Then a yakkha who had full confidence in the bhikkhuni Sukka, going from street to street and from square to square in Rajagaha, on that occasion recited these verses:

ā€œKiį¹ me katā rājagahe manussā, ā€œWhatā€™s up with these people in Rājagaha? ā€œWhat has happened to these people in Rajagaha?

MadhupÄ«tāva seyare; They sleep like theyā€™ve been drinking mead! They sleep as if they've been drinking mead.

Ye sukkaį¹ na payirupāsanti, They donā€™t attend on Sukkā Why donā€™t they attend on Sukka

Desentiį¹ amataį¹ padaį¹. as sheā€™s teaching the state free of death. As she teaches the deathless state?

TaƱca pana appaį¹­ivānÄ«yaį¹, But the wiseā€”ā€œBut the wise,

Asecanakamojavaį¹; itā€™s as if they drink it up, as it were, drink it upā€”

Pivanti maƱƱe sappaƱƱā, so irresistible, delicious, and nutritious, That [Dhamma] irresistible, Ambrosial, nutritiousā€”

Valāhakamiva panthagÅ«ā€ti. like travelers enjoying a cool cloud.ā€ As travellers do a cloud.
