Dutiyasukkāsutta With the Nun Sukkā (2nd) With the Nun Sukkā (2nd)

Ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivāpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrelsā€™ feeding ground. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rajagaha in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrel Sanctuary.

Tena kho pana samayena aƱƱataro upāsako sukkāya bhikkhuniyā bhojanaį¹ adāsi. Now at that time a certain lay follower gave food to the nun Sukkā. Now on that occasion a certain lay follower gave food to the bhikkhuni Sukka.

Atha kho sukkāya bhikkhuniyā abhippasanno yakkho rājagahe rathikāya rathikaį¹ siį¹…ghāį¹­akena siį¹…ghāį¹­akaį¹ upasaį¹…kamitvā tāyaį¹ velāyaį¹ imaį¹ gāthaį¹ abhāsi: Then a native spirit was so devoted to Sukkā that he went from street to street and from square to square, and on that occasion recited these verses: Then a yakkha who had full confidence in the bhikkhuni Sukka, going from street to street and from square to square in Rajagaha, on that occasion recited this verse:

ā€œPuƱƱaį¹ vata pasavi bahuį¹, ā€œO! He has made so much merit! He has engendered much meritā€”

SappaƱƱo vatāyaį¹ upāsako; That lay follower is so very wise. Wise indeed is this lay follower,

Yo sukkāya adāsi bhojanaį¹, He just gave food to Sukkā, Who just gave food to Sukka,

Sabbaganthehi vippamuttiyāā€ti. who is released from all ties.ā€ One released from all the knots.
