CÄ«rÄsutta With the Nun CÄ«rÄ CÄ«rÄ
Evaį¹ me sutaį¹āSo I have heard.
ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivÄpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrelsā feeding ground. On one occasion the Blessed One was dwelling at Rajagaha in the Bamboo Grove, the Squirrel Sanctuary.
Tena kho pana samayena aƱƱataro upÄsako cÄ«rÄya bhikkhuniyÄ cÄ«varaį¹ adÄsi. Now at that time a certain lay follower gave a robe to the nun CÄ«rÄ. Now on that occasion a certain lay follower gave a robe to the bhikkhuni Cira.
Atha kho cÄ«rÄya bhikkhuniyÄ abhippasanno yakkho rÄjagahe rathikÄya rathikaį¹ siį¹
ghÄį¹akena siį¹
ghÄį¹akaį¹ upasaį¹
kamitvÄ tÄyaį¹ velÄyaį¹ imaį¹ gÄthaį¹ abhÄsi: Then a native spirit was so devoted to CÄ«rÄ that he went from street to street and from square to square, and on that occasion recited these verses: Then a yakkha who had full confidence in the bhikkhuni Cita, going from street to street and from square to square in Rajagaha, on that occasion recited this verse:
āPuƱƱaį¹ vata pasavi bahuį¹, āO! He has made so much merit! He has engendered much merit
SappaƱƱo vatÄyaį¹ upÄsako; That lay-follower is so very wise. Wise indeed is this lay follower
Yo cÄ«rÄya adÄsi cÄ«varaį¹, He gave a robe to CÄ«rÄ, Who just gave a robe to Cira
Sabbayogehi vippamuttiyÄāti. who is released from all yokes.ā One released from all the bonds.
