Dasabalasutta The Ten Powers

Sāvatthiyaį¹ viharati. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œDasabalasamannāgato, bhikkhave, tathāgato catÅ«hi ca vesārajjehi samannāgato āsabhaį¹ į¹­hānaį¹ paį¹­ijānāti, parisāsu sÄ«hanādaį¹ nadati, brahmacakkaį¹ pavattetiā€”ā€œMendicants, a Realized One has ten powers and four kinds of self-assurance. With these he claims the bullā€™s place, roars his lionā€™s roar in the assemblies, and turns the divine wheel.

iti rÅ«paį¹ iti rÅ«passa samudayo iti rÅ«passa atthaį¹…gamo, Such is form, such is the origin of form, such is the ending of form.

iti vedanā iti vedanāya samudayo iti vedanāya atthaį¹…gamo, Such is feeling, such is the origin of feeling, such is the ending of feeling.

iti saƱƱā iti saƱƱāya samudayo iti saƱƱāya atthaį¹…gamo, Such is perception, such is the origin of perception, such is the ending of perception.

iti saį¹…khārā iti saį¹…khārānaį¹ samudayo iti saį¹…khārānaį¹ atthaį¹…gamo, Such are choices, such is the origin of choices, such is the ending of choices.

iti viƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ iti viƱƱāį¹‡assa samudayo iti viƱƱāį¹‡assa atthaį¹…gamo. Such is consciousness, such is the origin of consciousness, such is the ending of consciousness.

Iti imasmiį¹ sati idaį¹ hoti, imassuppādā idaį¹ uppajjati. When this exists, that is; due to the arising of this, that arises.

Imasmiį¹ asati idaį¹ na hoti, imassa nirodhā idaį¹ nirujjhati. When this doesnā€™t exist, that is not; due to the cessation of this, that ceases. That is:

Yadidaį¹ avijjāpaccayā saį¹…khārā; Ignorance is a condition for choices.

saį¹…khārapaccayā viƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ Choices are a condition for consciousness. ā€¦

evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa samudayo hoti. That is how this entire mass of suffering originates.

Avijjāya tveva asesavirāganirodhā saį¹…khāranirodho; When ignorance fades away and ceases with nothing left over, choices cease.

saį¹…khāranirodhā viƱƱāį¹‡anirodho ā€¦peā€¦ When choices cease, consciousness ceases. ā€¦

evametassa kevalassa dukkhakkhandhassa nirodho hotÄ«ā€ti. That is how this entire mass of suffering ceases.ā€
