Pabbatasutta A Mountain

Sāvatthiyaį¹ viharati. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œSeyyathāpi, bhikkhave, puriso himavato pabbatarājassa satta sāsapamattiyo pāsāį¹‡asakkharā upanikkhipeyya. ā€œMendicants, suppose a person was to place seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds on the Himalayas, the king of mountains.

Taį¹ kiį¹ maƱƱatha, bhikkhave, What do you think, mendicants?

katamaį¹ nu kho bahutaraį¹, yā vā satta sāsapamattiyo pāsāį¹‡asakkharā upanikkhittā yo vā himavā pabbatarājāā€ti? Which is more: the seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds, or the Himalayas, the king of mountains?ā€

ā€œEtadeva, bhante, bahutaraį¹ yadidaį¹ himavā pabbatarājā; ā€œSir, the Himalayas, the king of mountains, is certainly more.

appamattikā satta sāsapamattiyo pāsāį¹‡asakkharā upanikkhittā. The seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds are tiny.

Neva satimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti na sahassimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti na satasahassimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti himavantaį¹ pabbatarājānaį¹ upanidhāya satta sāsapamattiyo pāsāį¹‡asakkharā upanikkhittāā€ti. Compared to the Himalayas, itā€™s not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.ā€
