Pabbatasutta A Mountain
SÄvatthiyaį¹ viharati. At SÄvatthÄ«.
āSeyyathÄpi, bhikkhave, puriso himavato pabbatarÄjassa satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ upanikkhipeyya. āMendicants, suppose a person was to place seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds on the Himalayas, the king of mountains.
Taį¹ kiį¹ maƱƱatha, bhikkhave, What do you think, mendicants?
katamaį¹ nu kho bahutaraį¹, yÄ vÄ satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ upanikkhittÄ yo vÄ himavÄ pabbatarÄjÄāti? Which is more: the seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds, or the Himalayas, the king of mountains?ā
āEtadeva, bhante, bahutaraį¹ yadidaį¹ himavÄ pabbatarÄjÄ; āSir, the Himalayas, the king of mountains, is certainly more.
appamattikÄ satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ upanikkhittÄ. The seven pebbles the size of mustard seeds are tiny.
Neva satimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti na sahassimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti na satasahassimaį¹ kalaį¹ upenti himavantaį¹ pabbatarÄjÄnaį¹ upanidhÄya satta sÄsapamattiyo pÄsÄį¹asakkharÄ upanikkhittÄāti. Compared to the Himalayas, itās not nearly a hundredth, a thousandth, or a hundred thousandth part.ā
