Dhātunānattasutta Diversity of Elements

Sāvatthiyaį¹ viharati. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œDhātunānattaį¹ vo, bhikkhave, desessāmi. ā€œMendicants, I will teach you the diversity of elements.

Taį¹ suį¹‡Ätha, sādhukaį¹ manasi karotha, bhāsissāmÄ«ā€ti. Listen and apply your mind well, I will speak.ā€

ā€œEvaį¹, bhanteā€ti kho te bhikkhÅ« bhagavato paccassosuį¹. ā€œYes, sir,ā€ they replied.

Bhagavā etadavoca: The Buddha said this:

ā€œKatamaƱca, bhikkhave, dhātunānattaį¹? ā€œAnd what is the diversity of elements?

Cakkhudhātu rÅ«padhātu cakkhuviƱƱāį¹‡adhātu, sotadhātu saddadhātu sotaviƱƱāį¹‡adhātu, ghānadhātu gandhadhātu ghānaviƱƱāį¹‡adhātu, jivhādhātu rasadhātu jivhāviƱƱāį¹‡adhātu, kāyadhātu phoį¹­į¹­habbadhātu kāyaviƱƱāį¹‡adhātu, manodhātu dhammadhātu manoviƱƱāį¹‡adhātuā€”The eye element, sight element, and eye consciousness element. The ear element, sound element, and ear consciousness element. The nose element, smell element, and nose consciousness element. The tongue element, taste element, and tongue consciousness element. The body element, touch element, and body consciousness element. The mind element, idea element, and mind consciousness element.

idaį¹ vuccati, bhikkhave, dhātunānattanā€ti. This is called the diversity of elements.ā€
