ā€œAhaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaį¹ savicāraį¹ vivekajaį¹ pÄ«tisukhaį¹ paį¹­hamaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. ā€œMendicants, whenever I want, quite secluded from sensual pleasures, secluded from unskillful qualities, I enter and remain in the first absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of seclusion, while placing the mind and keeping it connected.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati vivicceva kāmehi vivicca akusalehi dhammehi savitakkaį¹ savicāraį¹ vivekajaį¹ pÄ«tisukhaį¹ paį¹­hamaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi vitakkavicārānaį¹ vÅ«pasamā ajjhattaį¹ sampasādanaį¹ cetaso ekodibhāvaį¹ avitakkaį¹ avicāraį¹ samādhijaį¹ pÄ«tisukhaį¹ dutiyaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, as the placing of the mind and keeping it connected are stilled, I enter and remain in the second absorption, which has the rapture and bliss born of immersion, with internal clarity and mind at one, without placing the mind and keeping it connected.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati vitakkavicārānaį¹ vÅ«pasamā ā€¦peā€¦ dutiyaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi pÄ«tiyā ca virāgā upekkhako ca viharāmi sato ca sampajāno sukhaƱca kāyena paį¹­isaį¹vedemi, yaį¹ taį¹ ariyā ācikkhanti: ā€˜upekkhako satimā sukhavihārÄ«ā€™ti tatiyaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, with the fading away of rapture, I enter and remain in the third absorption, where I meditate with equanimity, mindful and aware, personally experiencing the bliss of which the noble ones declare, ā€˜Equanimous and mindful, one meditates in bliss.ā€™

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati pÄ«tiyā ca virāgā upekkhako ca viharati sato ca sampajāno, sukhaƱca kāyena paį¹­isaį¹vedeti, yaį¹ taį¹ ariyā ācikkhanti: ā€˜upekkhako satimā sukhavihārÄ«ā€™ti tatiyaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sukhassa ca pahānā dukkhassa ca pahānā pubbeva somanassadomanassānaį¹ atthaį¹…gamā adukkhamasukhaį¹ upekkhāsatipārisuddhiį¹ catutthaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, with the giving up of pleasure and pain, and the ending of former happiness and sadness, I enter and remain in the fourth absorption, without pleasure or pain, with pure equanimity and mindfulness.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati sukhassa ca pahānā ā€¦peā€¦ catutthaį¹ jhānaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sabbaso rÅ«pasaƱƱānaį¹ samatikkamā paį¹­ighasaƱƱānaį¹ atthaį¹…gamā nānattasaƱƱānaį¹ amanasikārā ananto ākāsoti ākāsānaƱcāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, going totally beyond perceptions of form, with the ending of perceptions of impingement, not focusing on perceptions of diversity, aware that ā€˜space is infiniteā€™, I enter and remain in the dimension of infinite space.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati sabbaso rÅ«pasaƱƱānaį¹ samatikkamā ā€¦peā€¦ ākāsānaƱcāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sabbaso ākāsānaƱcāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma anantaį¹ viƱƱāį¹‡anti viƱƱāį¹‡aƱcāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, going totally beyond the dimension of infinite space, aware that ā€˜consciousness is infiniteā€™, I enter and remain in the dimension of infinite consciousness.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati sabbaso ākāsānaƱcāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma anantaį¹ viƱƱāį¹‡anti viƱƱāį¹‡aƱcāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sabbaso viƱƱāį¹‡aƱcāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma ā€˜natthi kiƱcÄ«ā€™ti ākiƱcaƱƱāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, going totally beyond the dimension of infinite consciousness, aware that ā€˜there is nothing at allā€™, I enter and remain in the dimension of nothingness.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati ā€¦peā€¦ ākiƱcaƱƱāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sabbaso ākiƱcaƱƱāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma nevasaƱƱānāsaƱƱāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, going totally beyond the dimension of nothingness, I enter and remain in the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati ā€¦peā€¦ nevasaƱƱānāsaƱƱāyatanaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi sabbaso nevasaƱƱānāsaƱƱāyatanaį¹ samatikkamma saƱƱāvedayitanirodhaį¹ upasampajja viharāmi. Whenever I want, going totally beyond the dimension of neither perception nor non-perception, I enter and remain in the cessation of perception and feeling.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave ā€¦peā€¦ saƱƱāvedayitanirodhaį¹ upasampajja viharati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi anekavihitaį¹ iddhividhaį¹ paccanubhomiā€”ekopi hutvā bahudhā homi, bahudhāpi hutvā eko homi; āvibhāvaį¹, tirobhāvaį¹, tirokuį¹­į¹­aį¹, tiropākāraį¹, tiropabbataį¹, asajjamāno gacchāmi, seyyathāpi ākāse; pathaviyāpi ummujjanimujjaį¹ karomi, seyyathāpi udake; udakepi abhijjamāne gacchāmi, seyyathāpi pathaviyaį¹; ākāsepi pallaį¹…kena kamāmi, seyyathāpi pakkhÄ« sakuį¹‡o; imepi candimasÅ«riye evaį¹mahiddhike evaį¹mahānubhāve pāį¹‡inā parimasāmi parimajjāmi; yāva brahmalokāpi kāyena vasaį¹ vattemi. Whenever I want, I wield the many kinds of psychic power: multiplying myself and becoming one again; appearing and disappearing; going unobstructed through a wall, a rampart, or a mountain as if through space; diving in and out of the earth as if it were water; walking on water as if it were earth; flying cross-legged through the sky like a bird; touching and stroking with the hand the sun and moon, so mighty and powerful. I control the body as far as the realm of divinity.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati anekavihitaį¹ iddhividhaį¹ paccanubhoti ā€¦peā€¦ yāva brahmalokāpi kāyena vasaį¹ vatteti. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi dibbāya sotadhātuyā visuddhāya atikkantamānusikāya ubho sadde suį¹‡Ämi, dibbe ca mānuse ca, ye dÅ«re santike ca. Whenever I want, with clairaudience that is purified and superhuman, I hear both kinds of sounds, human and heavenly, whether near or far.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati dibbāya sotadhātuyā ā€¦peā€¦ dÅ«re santike ca. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi parasattānaį¹ parapuggalānaį¹ cetasā ceto paricca pajānāmiā€”Whenever I want, I understand the minds of other beings and individuals, having comprehended them with my mind.

sarāgaį¹ vā cittaį¹ sarāgaį¹ cittanti pajānāmi, I understand mind with greed as ā€˜mind with greedā€™,

vÄ«tarāgaį¹ vā cittaį¹ vÄ«tarāgaį¹ cittanti pajānāmi, and mind without greed as ā€˜mind without greedā€™;

sadosaį¹ vā cittaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ mind with hate ā€¦

vÄ«tadosaį¹ vā cittaį¹ ā€¦ mind without hate ā€¦

samohaį¹ vā cittaį¹ ā€¦ mind with delusion ā€¦

avimuttaį¹ vā cittaį¹ avimuttaį¹ cittanti pajānāti.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi anekavihitaį¹ pubbenivāsaį¹ anussarāmi, seyyathidaį¹ā€”ekampi jātiį¹ dvepi jātiyo tissopi jātiyo catassopi jātiyo paƱcapi jātiyo dasapi jātiyo vÄ«sampi jātiyo tiį¹sampi jātiyo cattālÄ«sampi jātiyo paƱƱāsampi jātiyo jātisatampi jātisahassampi jātisatasahassampi, anekepi saį¹vaį¹­į¹­akappe anekepi vivaį¹­į¹­akappe anekepi saį¹vaį¹­į¹­avivaį¹­į¹­akappe: ā€˜amutrāsiį¹ evaį¹nāmo evaį¹…gotto evaį¹vaį¹‡į¹‡o evamāhāro evaį¹sukhadukkhappaį¹­isaį¹vedÄ« evamāyupariyanto, so tato cuto amutra udapādiį¹; tatrāpāsiį¹ evaį¹nāmo evaį¹…gotto evaį¹vaį¹‡į¹‡o evamāhāro evaį¹sukhadukkhappaį¹­isaį¹vedÄ« evamāyupariyanto, so tato cuto idhÅ«papannoā€™ti. Iti sākāraį¹ sauddesaį¹ anekavihitaį¹ pubbenivāsaį¹ anussarāmi. Whenever I want, I recollect my many kinds of past lives. That is: one, two, three, four, five, ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty, a hundred, a thousand, a hundred thousand rebirths; many eons of the world contracting, many eons of the world expanding, many eons of the world contracting and expanding. I remember: ā€˜There, I was named this, my clan was that, I looked like this, and that was my food. This was how I felt pleasure and pain, and that was how my life ended. When I passed away from that place I was reborn somewhere else. There, too, I was named this, my clan was that, I looked like this, and that was my food. This was how I felt pleasure and pain, and that was how my life ended. When I passed away from that place I was reborn here.ā€™ And so I recollect my many kinds of past lives, with features and details.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati anekavihitaį¹ pubbenivāsaį¹ anussarati, seyyathidaį¹ā€”ekampi jātiį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ iti sākāraį¹ sauddesaį¹ anekavihitaį¹ pubbenivāsaį¹ anussarati. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khāmi dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne hÄ«ne paį¹‡Ä«te suvaį¹‡į¹‡e dubbaį¹‡į¹‡e, sugate duggate yathākammÅ«page satte pajānāmi: ā€˜ime vata, bhonto, sattā kāyaduccaritena samannāgatā vacÄ«duccaritena samannāgatā manoduccaritena samannāgatā ariyānaį¹ upavādakā micchādiį¹­į¹­hikā micchādiį¹­į¹­hikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä apāyaį¹ duggatiį¹ vinipātaį¹ nirayaį¹ upapannā, ime vā pana, bhonto, sattā kāyasucaritena samannāgatā vacÄ«sucaritena samannāgatā manosucaritena samannāgatā ariyānaį¹ anupavādakā sammādiį¹­į¹­hikā sammādiį¹­į¹­hikammasamādānā; te kāyassa bhedā paraį¹ maraį¹‡Ä sugatiį¹ saggaį¹ lokaį¹ upapannāā€™ti. Iti dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passāmi cavamāne upapajjamāne hÄ«ne paį¹‡Ä«te suvaį¹‡į¹‡e dubbaį¹‡į¹‡e, sugate duggate yathākammÅ«page satte pajānāmi. Whenever I want, with clairvoyance that is purified and superhuman, I see sentient beings passing away and being rebornā€”inferior and superior, beautiful and ugly, in a good place or a bad place. I understand how sentient beings are reborn according to their deeds. ā€˜These dear beings did bad things by way of body, speech, and mind. They denounced the noble ones; they had wrong view; and they chose to act out of that wrong view. When their body breaks up, after death, theyā€™re reborn in a place of loss, a bad place, the underworld, hell. These dear beings, however, did good things by way of body, speech, and mind. They never denounced the noble ones; they had right view; and they chose to act out of that right view. When their body breaks up, after death, theyā€™re reborn in a good place, a heavenly realm.ā€™ And so, with clairvoyance that is purified and superhuman, I see sentient beings passing away and being rebornā€”inferior and superior, beautiful and ugly, in a good place or a bad place. I understand how sentient beings are reborn according to their deeds.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, yāvade ākaį¹…khati dibbena cakkhunā visuddhena atikkantamānusakena satte passati cavamāne ā€¦peā€¦ yathākammÅ«page satte pajānāti. And so does Kassapa.

Ahaį¹, bhikkhave, āsavānaį¹ khayā anāsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱāvimuttiį¹ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharāmi. I have realized the undefiled freedom of heart and freedom by wisdom in this very life. And I live having realized it with my own insight due to the ending of defilements.

Kassapopi, bhikkhave, āsavānaį¹ khayā anāsavaį¹ cetovimuttiį¹ paƱƱāvimuttiį¹ diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharatÄ«ā€ti. And so does Kassapa.ā€
