āEvaį¹, bhanteā. āYes, sir.ā
āEso kho, bhikkhave, jarasiį¹
gÄlo ukkaį¹įøakena nÄma rogajÄtena phuį¹į¹ho neva bilagato ramati, na rukkhamÅ«lagato ramati, na ajjhokÄsagato ramati; āThat old jackal has the disease called mange. Heās not happy in his den, or at the root of a tree, or out in the open.
yena yena gacchati, yattha yattha tiį¹į¹hati, yattha yattha nisÄ«dati, yattha yattha nipajjati; tattha tattha anayabyasanaį¹ Äpajjati. Wherever he goes, stands, sits, or lies down he meets with tragedy and disaster.
Evameva kho, bhikkhave, idhekacco bhikkhu lÄbhasakkÄrasilokena abhibhÅ«to pariyÄdiį¹į¹acitto neva suƱƱÄgÄragato ramati, na rukkhamÅ«lagato ramati, na ajjhokÄsagato ramati; In the same way, take a certain mendicant whose mind is overcome and overwhelmed by possessions, honor, and popularity. Theyāre not happy in an empty hut, at the root of a tree, or out in the open.
