Dutiyasiį¹…gālasutta A Jackal (2nd)

Sāvatthiyaį¹ viharati. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œAssuttha no tumhe, bhikkhave, rattiyā paccÅ«sasamayaį¹ jarasiį¹…gālassa vassamānassāā€ti? ā€œMendicants, did you hear an old jackal howling at the crack of dawn?ā€

ā€œEvaį¹, bhanteā€. ā€œYes, sir.ā€

ā€œSiyā kho, bhikkhave, tasmiį¹ jarasiį¹…gāle yā kāci kataƱƱutā kataveditā, na tveva idhekacce sakyaputtiyapaį¹­iƱƱe siyā yā kāci kataƱƱutā kataveditā. ā€œThere might be some gratitude and thankfulness in that old jackal, but there is none in a certain person here who claims to follow the Sakyan.

Tasmātiha, bhikkhave, evaį¹ sikkhitabbaį¹: So you should train like this:

ā€˜kataƱƱuno bhavissāma katavedino; ā€˜We will be grateful and thankful.

na ca no amhesu appakampi kataį¹ nassissatÄ«ā€™ti. We wonā€™t forget even a small thing done for us.ā€™

EvaƱhi vo, bhikkhave, sikkhitabbanā€ti. Thatā€™s how you should train.ā€
