Atha kho ÄyasmÄ Änando yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹
kami; upasaį¹
kamitvÄ bhagavantaį¹ abhivÄdetvÄ ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho ÄyasmÄ Änando bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then Venerable Änanda went up to the Buddha, bowed, sat down to one side, and said to the Buddha:
āānirodho nirodhoāti, bhante, vuccati. āSir, they speak of ācessationā.
KatamesÄnaį¹ kho, bhante, dhammÄnaį¹ nirodho ānirodhoāti vuccatÄ«āti? The cessation of what things does this refer to?ā
āRÅ«paį¹ kho, Änanda, aniccaį¹ saį¹
khataį¹ paį¹iccasamuppannaį¹ khayadhammaį¹ vayadhammaį¹ virÄgadhammaį¹ nirodhadhammaį¹. āÄnanda, form is impermanent, conditioned, dependently originated, liable to end, vanish, fade away, and cease.
Tassa nirodho ānirodhoāti vuccati. Its cessation is what ācessationā refers to.
