Tatiyaassādasutta Gratification (3rd)

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

ā€œNo cedaį¹, bhikkhave, rÅ«passa assādo abhavissa nayidaį¹ sattā rÅ«pasmiį¹ sārajjeyyuį¹. ā€œMendicants, if there were no gratification in form, sentient beings wouldnā€™t be aroused by it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi rÅ«passa assādo, tasmā sattā rÅ«pasmiį¹ sārajjanti. But since there is gratification in form, sentient beings are aroused by it.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, rÅ«passa ādÄ«navo abhavissa nayidaį¹ sattā rÅ«pasmiį¹ nibbindeyyuį¹. If form had no drawback, sentient beings wouldnā€™t grow disillusioned with it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi rÅ«passa ādÄ«navo, tasmā sattā rÅ«pasmiį¹ nibbindanti. But since form has a drawback, sentient beings do grow disillusioned with it.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, rÅ«passa nissaraį¹‡aį¹ abhavissa nayidaį¹ sattā rÅ«pasmā nissareyyuį¹. If there were no escape from form, sentient beings wouldnā€™t escape from it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi rÅ«passa nissaraį¹‡aį¹, tasmā sattā rÅ«pasmā nissaranti. But since there is an escape from form, sentient beings do escape from it.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, vedanāya ā€¦peā€¦ If there were no gratification in feeling ā€¦

no cedaį¹, bhikkhave, saƱƱāya ā€¦ perception ā€¦

no cedaį¹, bhikkhave, saį¹…khārānaį¹ nissaraį¹‡aį¹ abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattā saį¹…khārehi nissareyyuį¹. choices ā€¦

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi saį¹…khārānaį¹ nissaraį¹‡aį¹, tasmā sattā saį¹…khārehi nissaranti.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, viƱƱāį¹‡assa assādo abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmiį¹ sārajjeyyuį¹. consciousness, sentient beings wouldnā€™t be aroused by it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi viƱƱāį¹‡assa assādo, tasmā sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmiį¹ sārajjanti. But since there is gratification in consciousness, sentient beings are aroused by it.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, viƱƱāį¹‡assa ādÄ«navo abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmiį¹ nibbindeyyuį¹. If consciousness had no drawback, sentient beings wouldnā€™t grow disillusioned with it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi viƱƱāį¹‡assa ādÄ«navo, tasmā sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmiį¹ nibbindanti. But since consciousness has a drawback, sentient beings do grow disillusioned with it.

No cedaį¹, bhikkhave, viƱƱāį¹‡assa nissaraį¹‡aį¹ abhavissa, nayidaį¹ sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmā nissareyyuį¹. If there were no escape from consciousness, sentient beings wouldnā€™t escape from it.

Yasmā ca kho, bhikkhave, atthi viƱƱāį¹‡assa nissaraį¹‡aį¹, tasmā sattā viƱƱāį¹‡asmā nissaranti. But since there is an escape from consciousness, sentient beings do escape from it.

YāvakÄ«vaƱca, bhikkhave, sattā imesaį¹ paƱcannaį¹ upādānakkhandhānaį¹ assādaƱca assādato ādÄ«navaƱca ādÄ«navato nissaraį¹‡aƱca nissaraį¹‡ato yathābhÅ«taį¹ nābbhaƱƱaį¹su; As long as sentient beings donā€™t truly understand these five grasping aggregatesā€™ gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, they havenā€™t escaped from this worldā€”with its gods, Māras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humansā€”and they donā€™t live detached, liberated, with a mind free of limits.

neva tāva, bhikkhave, sattā sadevakā lokā samārakā sabrahmakā sassamaį¹‡abrāhmaį¹‡iyā pajāya sadevamanussāya nissaį¹­Ä visaį¹yuttā vippamuttā vimariyādÄ«katena cetasā vihariį¹su.

Yato ca kho, bhikkhave, sattā imesaį¹ paƱcannaį¹ upādānakkhandhānaį¹ assādaƱca assādato ādÄ«navaƱca ādÄ«navato nissaraį¹‡aƱca nissaraį¹‡ato yathābhÅ«taį¹ abbhaƱƱaį¹su; But when sentient beings truly understand these five grasping aggregatesā€™ gratification, drawback, and escape for what they are, theyā€™ve escaped from this worldā€”with its gods, Māras, and Divinities, this population with its ascetics and brahmins, its gods and humansā€”and they live detached, liberated, with a mind free of limits.ā€

atha, bhikkhave, sattā sadevakā lokā samārakā sabrahmakā sassamaį¹‡abrāhmaį¹‡iyā pajāya sadevamanussāya nissaį¹­Ä visaį¹yuttā vippamuttā vimariyādÄ«katena cetasā viharantiā€.
