Evaį¹ me sutaį¹āSo I have heard.
ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavÄ rÄjagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivÄpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near RÄjagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrelsā feeding ground.
Atha kho soį¹o gahapatiputto yena bhagavÄ tenupasaį¹
kami; upasaį¹
kamitvÄ bhagavantaį¹ abhivÄdetvÄ ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinnaį¹ kho soį¹aį¹ gahapatiputtaį¹ bhagavÄ etadavoca: Then the householder Soį¹a went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him:
āYe hi keci, soį¹a, samaį¹Ä vÄ brÄhmaį¹Ä vÄ rÅ«paį¹ nappajÄnanti, rÅ«pasamudayaį¹ nappajÄnanti, rÅ«panirodhaį¹ nappajÄnanti, rÅ«panirodhagÄminiį¹ paį¹ipadaį¹ nappajÄnanti; āSoį¹a, there are ascetics and brahmins who donāt understand form, its origin, its cessation, and the practice that leads to its cessation.

Na me te, soį¹a, samaį¹Ä vÄ brÄhmaį¹Ä vÄ samaį¹esu vÄ samaį¹asammatÄ brÄhmaį¹esu vÄ brÄhmaį¹asammatÄ, na ca pana te Äyasmanto sÄmaƱƱatthaį¹ vÄ brahmaƱƱatthaį¹ vÄ diį¹į¹heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiĆ±Ć±Ä sacchikatvÄ upasampajja viharanti. I donāt deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables donāt realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and donāt live having realized it with their own insight.
