Dutiyasoį¹‡asutta With Soį¹‡a (2nd)

Evaį¹ me sutaį¹ā€”So I have heard.

ekaį¹ samayaį¹ bhagavā rājagahe viharati veįø·uvane kalandakanivāpe. At one time the Buddha was staying near Rājagaha, in the Bamboo Grove, the squirrelsā€™ feeding ground.

Atha kho soį¹‡o gahapatiputto yena bhagavā tenupasaį¹…kami; upasaį¹…kamitvā bhagavantaį¹ abhivādetvā ekamantaį¹ nisÄ«di. Ekamantaį¹ nisinnaį¹ kho soį¹‡aį¹ gahapatiputtaį¹ bhagavā etadavoca: Then the householder Soį¹‡a went up to the Buddha, bowed, and sat down to one side. The Buddha said to him:

ā€œYe hi keci, soį¹‡a, samaį¹‡Ä vā brāhmaį¹‡Ä vā rÅ«paį¹ nappajānanti, rÅ«pasamudayaį¹ nappajānanti, rÅ«panirodhaį¹ nappajānanti, rÅ«panirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ nappajānanti; ā€œSoį¹‡a, there are ascetics and brahmins who donā€™t understand form, its origin, its cessation, and the practice that leads to its cessation.

vedanaį¹ nappajānanti, vedanāsamudayaį¹ nappajānanti, vedanānirodhaį¹ nappajānanti, vedanānirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ nappajānanti; They donā€™t understand feeling ā€¦

saƱƱaį¹ nappajānanti ā€¦peā€¦ perception ā€¦

saį¹…khāre nappajānanti, saį¹…khārasamudayaį¹ nappajānanti, saį¹…khāranirodhaį¹ nappajānanti, saį¹…khāranirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ nappajānanti; choices ā€¦

viƱƱāį¹‡aį¹ nappajānanti, viƱƱāį¹‡asamudayaį¹ nappajānanti, viƱƱāį¹‡anirodhaį¹ nappajānanti, viƱƱāį¹‡anirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ nappajānanti. consciousness, its origin, its cessation, and the practice that leads to its cessation.

Na me te, soį¹‡a, samaį¹‡Ä vā brāhmaį¹‡Ä vā samaį¹‡esu vā samaį¹‡asammatā brāhmaį¹‡esu vā brāhmaį¹‡asammatā, na ca pana te āyasmanto sāmaƱƱatthaį¹ vā brahmaƱƱatthaį¹ vā diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharanti. I donā€™t deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables donā€™t realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and donā€™t live having realized it with their own insight.

Ye ca kho keci, soį¹‡a, samaį¹‡Ä vā brāhmaį¹‡Ä vā rÅ«paį¹ pajānanti, rÅ«pasamudayaį¹ pajānanti, rÅ«panirodhaį¹ pajānanti, rÅ«panirodhagāminiį¹ paį¹­ipadaį¹ pajānanti; There are ascetics and brahmins who do understand form, its origin, its cessation, and the practice that leads to its cessation.

Te ca kho me, soį¹‡a, samaį¹‡Ä vā brāhmaį¹‡Ä vā samaį¹‡esu ceva samaį¹‡asammatā brāhmaį¹‡esu ca brāhmaį¹‡asammatā, te ca panāyasmanto sāmaƱƱatthaƱca brahmaƱƱatthaƱca diį¹­į¹­heva dhamme sayaį¹ abhiƱƱā sacchikatvā upasampajja viharantÄ«ā€ti. I deem them as true ascetics and brahmins. Those venerables realize the goal of life as an ascetic or brahmin, and live having realized it with their own insight.ā€
