Atha kho aƱƱataro bhikkhu ā¦peā¦ ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho so bhikkhu bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Then a mendicant went up to the Buddha ā¦ and asked him,
āsÄdhu me, bhante, bhagavÄ saį¹
khittena dhammaį¹ desetu ā¦peā¦ ÄtÄpÄ« pahitatto vihareyyanāti. āSir, may the Buddha please teach me Dhamma in brief. When Iāve heard it, Iāll live alone, withdrawn, diligent, keen, and resolute.ā
āYo kho, bhikkhu, anattÄ; tatra te chando pahÄtabboāti. āMendicant, give up desire for what is not-self.ā
āAƱƱÄtaį¹, bhagavÄ, aƱƱÄtaį¹, sugatÄāti. āUnderstood, Blessed One! Understood, Holy One!ā
āYathÄ kathaį¹ pana tvaį¹, bhikkhu, mayÄ saį¹
