Arahantasutta The Perfected Ones
SÄvatthinidÄnaį¹. At SÄvatthÄ«.
āRÅ«paį¹, bhikkhave, aniccaį¹. āMendicants, form is impermanent.
Yadaniccaį¹ taį¹ dukkhaį¹; Whatās impermanent is suffering.
yaį¹ dukkhaį¹ tadanattÄ; Whatās suffering is not-self.
yadanattÄ taį¹ ānetaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attÄāti evametaį¹ yathÄbhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱÄya daį¹į¹habbaį¹. And whatās not-self should be truly seen with right understanding like this: āThis is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.ā

Evaį¹ passaį¹, bhikkhave, sutavÄ ariyasÄvako rÅ«pasmimpi nibbindati, vedanÄyapi ā¦ saƱƱÄyapi ā¦ saį¹
khÄresupi ā¦ viƱƱÄį¹asmimpi nibbindati. Seeing this, a learned noble disciple grows disillusioned with form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness.
Nibbindaį¹ virajjati; virÄgÄ vimuccati. Vimuttasmiį¹ vimuttamiti ƱÄį¹aį¹ hoti. Being disillusioned, desire fades away. When desire fades away theyāre freed. When theyāre freed, they know theyāre freed.
āKhÄ«į¹Ä jÄti, vusitaį¹ brahmacariyaį¹, kataį¹ karaį¹Ä«yaį¹, nÄparaį¹ itthattÄyÄāti pajÄnÄti. They understand: āRebirth is ended, the spiritual journey has been completed, what had to be done has been done, there is nothing further for this place.ā
YÄvatÄ, bhikkhave, sattÄvÄsÄ, yÄvatÄ bhavaggaį¹, ete aggÄ, ete seį¹į¹hÄ lokasmiį¹ yadidaį¹ arahantoāti. As far as there are abodes of sentient beings, even up until the pinnacle of existence, the perfected ones are the foremost and the best.ā
Idamavoca bhagavÄ. That is what the Buddha said.
Idaį¹ vatvÄna sugato athÄparaį¹ etadavoca satthÄ: Then the Holy One, the Teacher, went on to say:
āSukhino vata arahanto, āOh! How happy are the perfected ones!
taį¹hÄ tesaį¹ na vijjati; Craving is not found in them,
AsmimÄno samucchinno, the conceit āI amā is cut off,
mohajÄlaį¹ padÄlitaį¹. and the net of delusion is shattered.
Anejaį¹ te anuppattÄ, Theyāve attained imperturbability,
cittaį¹ tesaį¹ anÄvilaį¹; their minds are unclouded,
Loke anupalittÄ te, nothing in the world clings to them,
brahmabhÅ«tÄ anÄsavÄ. manifesting divinity, undefiled.
PaƱcakkhandhe pariƱƱÄya, Completely understanding the five aggregates,
satta saddhammagocarÄ; their domain is the seven good qualities.
Pasaį¹siyÄ sappurisÄ, Those true persons are praiseworthy,
puttÄ buddhassa orasÄ. the Buddhaās true-born sons.
SattaratanasampannÄ, Endowed with the seven gems,
TÄ«su sikkhÄsu sikkhitÄ; and trained in the three trainings,
Anuvicaranti mahÄvÄ«rÄ, the great heroes live on,
PahÄ«nabhayabheravÄ. with fear and dread given up.
Dasahaį¹
gehi sampannÄ, Endowed with ten factors,
mahÄnÄgÄ samÄhitÄ; those giants have immersion.
Ete kho seį¹į¹hÄ lokasmiį¹, These are the best in the world,
taį¹hÄ tesaį¹ na vijjati. craving is not found in them.
AsekhaƱÄį¹amuppannaį¹, The adeptās knowledge has arisen:
antimoyaį¹ samussayo; āThis bag of bones is my last.ā
Yo sÄro brahmacariyassa, They are independent of others
tasmiį¹ aparapaccayÄ. in the core of the spiritual path.
VidhÄsu na vikampanti, Unwavering in the face of discriminations,
vippamuttÄ punabbhavÄ; theyāre freed from future lives.
DantabhÅ«mimanuppattÄ, Theyāve reached the level of the tamed,
te loke vijitÄvino. in the world, theyāre the winners.
Uddhaį¹ tiriyaį¹ apÄcÄ«naį¹, Above, below, all round,
nandÄ« tesaį¹ na vijjati; relishing is not found in them.
Nadanti te sÄ«hanÄdaį¹, They roar their lionās roar:
buddhÄ loke anuttarÄāti. āThe awakened are supreme in the world!āā
