Dutiyakappasutta With Kappa (2nd)

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

Ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho āyasmā kappo bhagavantaį¹ etadavoca: Seated to one side, Venerable Kappa said to the Buddha:

ā€œkathaį¹ nu kho, bhante, jānato kathaį¹ passato imasmiƱca saviƱƱāį¹‡ake kāye bahiddhā ca sabbanimittesu ahaį¹…kāramamaį¹…kāramānāpagataį¹ mānasaį¹ hoti vidhā samatikkantaį¹ santaį¹ suvimuttanā€ti? ā€œSir, how does one know and see so that the mind is rid of I-making, mine-making, and conceit for this conscious body and all external stimuli; and going beyond discrimination, itā€™s peaceful and well freed?ā€

ā€œYaį¹ kiƱci, kappa, rÅ«paį¹ atÄ«tānāgatapaccuppannaį¹ ā€¦peā€¦ sabbaį¹ rÅ«paį¹ ā€˜netaį¹ mama, nesohamasmi, na meso attāā€™ti evametaį¹ yathābhÅ«taį¹ sammappaƱƱāya disvā anupādāvimutto hoti. ā€œKappa, one is freed by not grasping having truly seen any kind of form at allā€”past, future, or present; internal or external; solid or subtle; inferior or superior; far or near: all formā€”with right understanding: ā€˜This is not mine, I am not this, this is not my self.ā€™

Evaį¹ kho, kappa, jānato evaį¹ passato imasmiƱca saviƱƱāį¹‡ake kāye bahiddhā ca sabbanimittesu ahaį¹…kāramamaį¹…kāramānāpagataį¹ mānasaį¹ hoti vidhā samatikkantaį¹ santaį¹ suvimuttanā€ti. Thatā€™s how to know and see so that the mind is rid of I-making, mine-making, and conceit for this conscious body and all external stimuli; and going beyond discrimination, itā€™s peaceful and well freed.ā€

Avijjā vijjā dve kathikā,

Bandhanā paripucchitā duve;
