Bārāį¹‡asiyaį¹ viharanti isipatane migadāye ā€¦peā€¦ At Varanasi.

ekamantaį¹ nisinno kho āyasmā mahākoį¹­į¹­hiko āyasmantaį¹ sāriputtaį¹ etadavoca: Mahākoį¹­į¹­hita said to Sāriputta:

ā€œā€˜vijjā, vijjāā€™ti, āvuso sāriputta, vuccati. ā€œReverend Sāriputta, they speak of this thing called ā€˜knowledgeā€™.

Katamā nu kho, āvuso, vijjā; What is knowledge?

kittāvatā ca vijjāgato hotÄ«ā€ti? And how is a knowledgeable person defined?ā€

ā€œIdhāvuso, sutavā ariyasāvako rÅ«passa samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca assādaƱca ādÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹‡aƱca yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti. ā€œReverend, a learned noble disciple truly understands the origin, the ending, the gratification, the drawback, and the escape when it comes to form,

Vedanāya ā€¦peā€¦ feeling,

saƱƱāya ā€¦ perception,

saį¹…khārānaį¹ ā€¦ choices,

viƱƱāį¹‡assa samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca assādaƱca ādÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹‡aƱca yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānāti. and consciousness.

Ayaį¹ vuccatāvuso, vijjā; This is called knowledge.

ettāvatā ca vijjāgato hotÄ«ā€ti. And this is how a knowledgeable person is defined.ā€
