Sotāpannasutta A Stream-Enterer

Sāvatthinidānaį¹. At SāvatthÄ«.

Ekamantaį¹ nisinnaį¹ kho āyasmantaį¹ rādhaį¹ bhagavā etadavoca: When Venerable Rādha was seated to one side, the Buddha said to him:

ā€œpaƱcime, rādha, upādānakkhandhā. ā€œRādha, there are these five grasping aggregates.

Katame paƱca? What five?

RÅ«pupādānakkhandho ā€¦peā€¦ viƱƱāį¹‡upādānakkhandho. The grasping aggregates of form, feeling, perception, choices, and consciousness.

Yato kho, rādha, ariyasāvako imesaį¹ paƱcannaį¹ upādānakkhandhānaį¹ samudayaƱca atthaį¹…gamaƱca assādaƱca ādÄ«navaƱca nissaraį¹‡aƱca yathābhÅ«taį¹ pajānātiā€”When a noble disciple truly understands these five grasping aggregatesā€™ origin, ending, gratification, drawback, and escape,

ayaį¹ vuccati, rādha, ariyasāvako sotāpanno avinipātadhammo niyato sambodhiparāyanoā€ti. theyā€™re called a noble disciple who is a stream-enterer, not liable to be reborn in the underworld, bound for awakening.ā€
